Default Li-ion property!!!

last week I found a very strange thing about my phone (Fly MP600). It has a li-ion battery (obviously). While charging it gets pretty heated up, but not so if it is kept in a manner that hte full surface does not touch any flat surface (for example , on 2 pens). I noticed that when it get got heated up while charging it retained charge for a much shorter time, less than a day wheras if it does not get heated it retains chrge for more than 2 days. Is it the same for all phones?

maybe the heat causes more resistance, leading to lower battery life. will try it out on my mp3 player.
