Career Guidance Needed!

My regards to all the gurus,geeks,noobs and novices
I'm a 22 year old commerce graduate who's gradually slipping into depression unless..i see some light on this thread
My passion for computers came along when it was too late for me to change the path I had chosen..(commerce)
And now that I've graduated..I find myself at the end of nowhere
B.coms are treated like Shi t!They're offered nothing but odd hours low paying jobs in BPOs
And that's not what I've always dreamt of!
So that means..Apart from the family business, there's not much I can do
I'm not interested in joining the rat race of MBAs either!
So you guys must be wondering what the hell I wanna do now??Like I mentioned earlier..computers are the only things that interest me
They say its never too late to learn..and I've decided to start learning now
I wanna pursue a career in game design and programming
So can anyone of you help me decide where can I make a start?Let me remind you I am a comm student and I have absolutely no previous knowldege of any of the programming languages
I've been thinking of the GNIIT program..Is there any dude on this forum who's been learning at any of the NIIT institues?Are there any other institutes in Bangalore with a really competitive faculty and people who can really teach me what I wanna learn upto the standards of a PRO?Coz the last time I visited NIIT..those people didn't seem to know what they were talking about..and the infrastucture looked really bad!

Dont worry about being too late.
As far as i know the IT companies do not look to find a pro for a fresher rather if u are talented and have the basic skills u will be taken.
So i suggest u to do basics on C or C++ and know some technical stuffs.
And in interview prepare good answers for why u choose commerce and came back to comp,why too late and all.

Yes, u can start any time. Just do any 6 months or more certification in ur field of intrest & then u will b able find a software job in that field. I m also searching for a job & there r lot of commerce graduates around me who have a s/w job after completing their courses.
Visit the sites like www.freshersworld.com & find suitable jobs & courses for u. Improve ur skills & search for a job.

you went to a sub-centre of NIIT, right?? try some main centre, or standard sub-centre, because there you can get good faculty, placement and other facilities, me also commerce final year student, doing PGDCA

At 22 it is never too late.

Only thing is you should also take up a part-time job to get some work experience also, while you're studying.

just learn to code decent in c/c++.

Then go for JAVA (learning JAVA after C++ should be a cake-walk).

Then give SCJP (sun certified java professional exam) and there u goes.There are specialised level after SCJP and remember u will get a chance to learn everything wat u missed during Bcom.

You will have to learn cuz nothing comes easy. And career in JAVA is the best, be it gaming or web apps development, take my word for it.

atleast i luv coding for games and other tricky kinda codings

@T159 :- Actually i should have paid attention when it was being taught for the first time

Now i just lost that phase and everything remotely related to programming(CODING) sucks big time..nevertheless there are many fields in I.T that do not need programming,will have to explore those once engineering is over

and yeah u are right this forceful coding is a drag, and when u try to code with no barriers..its fun...but i hv lost that phase too my basics are flawed
