Smile How many Hits can be served in broadband ?

Hi Guys

What i done i trasfered my clicnt site to inhouse server having broadband (256kb)

Ammazing Results i found

It serverd 43000+ pages

using only 31% cpu all time
Trasferred 5 GB of data

CPU Speed Celeron 1.7
Ram 512
HDD 80 GB 5200 rpm

This info is usefull for peoples who want to buy dedeicated servers & think celeron is not capable

if broadband speed became more hen sever may easlt hosts 100000 hits

Thanks

Were they just static pages? Or any scripting was used?

Anyway, that's nothing! Look what i found on the slackware site!

Curious about the machine running this site, eh? Also fairly high on the importance scale (for this site, anyway) is the box itself. The machine is a Pentium III, 600 MHz, with 512 megabytes of RAM. It runs (of course) Slackware Linux, and does an efficient and reliable job even with moderately old hardware. The slackware.com site has been known to run for well over a year without a reboot.
That's the power of linux!

True..

I have seen servers running on linux which have as low end machine as a P3 with 600 Mhz and 128 RAM. And that too even without a reboot for 2 or more years...
Linux is GREAT.....
As long as your site is simple text based and not a multimedia site u dont need high-end hardware or a powerfull internet connection.

Linux servers are very powerful. Try replacing Apache Webserver with Lighttpd....you will

Apache is the culprit on most servers, super resource hogger. Lighttd is used by some very popular sites on planet including Youtube.

Check here for more
http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/PoweredByLighttpd

Lighttpd runs on Apache Group AFAIK. So it shows that way

Hmm, but on this page http://trac.lighttpd.net/trac/wiki/PoweredByLighttpd
They claim, youtube uses Lighttpd

I checked youtube, sendspace and isohunt. The former 2 report apache whereas isohunt reports lighttpd.

Yeah, Isohunt shows lighttpd so does Sourceforge. Now sure, why sendspace and youtube dont.
