Suggest how to start with Microcontroller Electronics

Just gave my 2nd sem exam. My 3rd sem will start in August.

In the meanwhile, I want to start with Microcontroller Electronics and build some small projects. And when I have become good at it, hope to build the ever-so-popular line follower robot.

Can you suggest some books or websites from where I can pick up the basics.
Also suggest some books for learning C programming for Microcontrollers. I heard that the syntax is a lot different than normal C, with which I am very familiar.

Also suggest the basic instruments/kit which I should have to build projects on Microcontrollers.

Best go to Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free and register in their forums. That's what I did.
