ok i install ubuntu 10.04...bt now when i try sudo apt-get install wine 4 window softwares it asks for passwrd...i enter passwrd but it doesnot appear...wht to do??????

what doesnt appear ? Do u see some matrix like content rick rolling, any damn activity in terminal. I guess try 'sudo make me a sandwich' next time.

Just type your password and press enter. You won't see ******* when you type your password in the terminal.

yeah there r no visual cues when u enter password in terminal.

Its a security feature. You never see any password being typed into the terminal. just type it correctly and go for the installation. Even i was bugged by it once

In Unix, you won't see the asterisks, so as to prevent anyone guessing the length

Most people don't have doubts with it because they don't look at screen while typing passwords.
