Exclamation [Wanted] Good LCD TV for Room

Hi guys

I need your expert advice. I'm planning to purchase a good LCD TV for my room but I don't have much knowledge about it.

Budget is 30-40K but can be increased if required.

Can you guys please suggest a good LCD TV in this range? Thanks in advance.

Recently ico & LFC_Fan have purchased LG Scarlet 32" LCD for just over 40K. Both are praising the model as if she is their wives

But how come you missed Diwali shopping?

forget plasma, go for LCD, if compared Plasma comes a little broader than LCD, and these days LCD's are beating the market and also available in cheap rates.

I am also going for LCD TV, but waiting for the price drop of LED TV.

Your budget is less or you would have went for the LED TV brought by SAMSUNG.

Within this budget u can go for the LCD TV which ico or LFC_Fan has purchased.

He is right. Plasmas are energy guzzlers. Nowadays LCDs rule because technology has been developed to manufacture LCD of bigger dimensions unlike past. LCDs are extremely power efficient devices.

Go for an LCD that has atleast 2 HDMI ports. Contrast ratio matters but anything above 15,000:1 is good enough for human eye. Stay clear from sales gimmicks like "HD ready". Buy a panel that is 100% HD. If budget permits buy a TV with bigger dimensions because after a while you will realise that 32" is not so big after all. Samsung is almost 15% costly than LG and Sony's Bravia even more. I hook my LCD with PS3 and an upscaled DVD player (advantange of two HDMI ports ). Images are in 1080p and absolutly crisp. LG panel rocks!!!

Basic difference : LCD is much more energy efficient than Plasma. Plasma TV's are expensive too and will never be popular due to the aforementioned reasons. LCD TV's are the "in" thing today.

The offers are still on in most places. He may buy fast to catch them. +1 to LG Scarlet. LG is my recommendation as LG manufactures its own panels and hence will always be cheaper at any price range. It has good features too.

No Dynamic Contrast Ratio is not something that really matters. I didn't even look at it when buying.

Yeah, and soon people are going to be buying 55" LED's and 32" will be like a baby. Hehe... No, seriously, 32" is more than enough.
@ OP What is the viewing distance going to be?

Reasons given above for the cost. Yes, LG Panels are great with the best of image quality as far as I did observe in various showrooms. Yes, 2 HDMI outs are recommended.

@ OP You have a DVD player + speakers? If not, then get the LG 32" Scarlet TV and get a decent home theater setup for 10k. The Samsung HTZ220 is nice with HDMI cable provided and also HD upscaling and bluetooth and usb divx playback.

Naaah, man 70k for 32" LED is bullsh1t. Price drop of LED panels are not expected to kick in till next year at least. Let LCD's become as widespread as CRT's and then you will see a price cut. Then OLED TV's will pop in which will be priced insanely at the beginning. For now, LCD's are the best bet.

ya, waiting for price drop till May, atleast some price drop, will be expected, I asked Croma, Navi Mumbai, they told the starting price is 68k, and the next series will cost 130k.

The viewing distance would be hardly 7-8 feet. So please suggest what should be the best screen size? After reading the comments, I think LG Scarlet would be the best for me.

7-8 feet? Well, 32" is overkill for such a small distance. But for FULL HD TV, 32" is minimum. 26" is more than enough for that distance, also you will need a good DTH service like Tata Sky/BIG TV/Dish TV/Airtel Dish for a pleasant non-pixelated TV experience at that distance.

But 26" won't give you full hd, so choose accordingly.

It would only be used for basic stuffs. I'm not very fond of watching movies, etc. So acc. to you, I should go for 26"

What exactly is basic stuff?
Yeah, 26" is decent. Why waste money on a Full HD 32" if not watching movies/playing games.

Yes, go for LG 26". Look for Jazz/Scarlet series. Although if Scarlet is available for 26", then it should be first choice, else get Jazz. Let us know what you do get finally.

as suggested go for Scarlet, awesome look and 26" is decent size so can enjoy normal TV viewing with it. I think scarlet comes will soon become a VFM LCD TV. Jazz comes with improved speaker technology, if one want to buy a LCD TV with gr8 sound as compared to others Jazz is the perfect choice.

Anyone of the following.....

32in LG Scarlet 2.0
- Full hd, 100000:1 contrast ratio, 2.4ms response time, 100hz, USB 2.0, DivX, Bluetooth, sexy looks, only 4cm thick

32in LG Jazz Theatre
- Full hd, 100000:1 contrast ratio, 2.4ms response time, 100hz, USB 2.0, DivX, 700w 5.1channel sorround sound with 9 speakers and 2 subwoofers.

Both will come under/exactly 40k.

Well 10 feet is the minimum viewing distance for 32" LCD.
And yeah 32" is not that big after all, and I think it's the minimum size one should go for.
But since your viewing distance is so short, you may very well get 26". But seriously though you just might repent your decision.
For 32" go for the Scarlett or Jazz. You'll get them with an HDMI upscaling DVD player for 40-41K.

Errr... With the 26 incher, he can save about 10k, and his needs are just basic (watching TV channels), not movies/playing games. For that 26" is more than enough. As LFC_fan said, 10 feet is the minimum distance for 32 inchers. I have heard people complaining of pixelation of video on 32 inchers due to low viewing distance, its the same as zooming in on a picture.

I agree that some may think of the 32" as being the minimum size one should be buying, but 26" are also not that small and, for the needs, 32" are not worth the extra 10k we need to pay. I have a non-Jazz/Scarlet 26" LG TV and the viewing distance is the same 6-8 feet. I am more than happy with the screen. Trust me, for this distance, I feel 32" would have been a lil' bit too large.

Yeah in quality it's alright. But 10 feet is recommended. It seems way too close otherwise with 5-6 feet.

If you're on the lookout for a new television, you must do some research by reading the reviews especially the ones coming from the experts and compare LCD TV ratings of various brands. That way, you are assured that you will be getting the best value for your purchase. Just a suggestion.

I had purchased LG 32LC7R (32" LG LCD) in June 2008 just before Euro 2008. I had purchased it from e-zone for Rs.40000. It had the best picture quality at that time. It also had HDMI port and also other ports used for home theater and dual display. You can find the review here.

http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/home_av...643421p,00.htm

It was HD ready TV. You should go for full HD (look for the logo) and my suggestion will be to go for LG or Sony. Now LCD's with full HD capability are available for less than Rs.40000. Recently I saw some of them at e-zone and they are also offerring a Reliance Big TV connection along with it. Some offers or the other are always going on (free DVD player, 50 movie DVD's, etc). Reading online reviews is one thing, to buy an LCD TV, you should go to see it physically. Whatever you buy, buy with HDMI ports and full HD capability, because it is the technology of the future. Just google for the difference between full HD and HD-ready.

Sony is overpriced and sucks bigtime.

LG and Samsung have better specs and pic quality at a lower price.

Spent a fair bit of time today researching and also checking out various models. My choice: LG 32LH60. A close competitor was Samsung series 5 - 550 model but it seems to lack the ability to play video from USB. I also expect the sound to be much better on this model of LG with 10 speakers, 5.1 channel sound and 700 W PMPO. I do not know how much 100 Hz will make a difference - even LG says that " it CAN reduce blurring on fast moving scenes". The best price I have got is 43,990 which includes an Airtel DTH for which the store is ready to reduce price by Rs. 1,500 if I dont take the connection.
I also need to get rid of a 27" flat CRT Philips TV in working condition, for which they are offering me Rs.3000.

I have a LG JAZZ 42" which I purchased Last year in Jan 2009 and very much satisfied with the performance.

It has sliding side speakers having surround sound with Dolby Digital and Woofer also.

Supports FULL HD 1080.

HDMI Inputs.

USB connectivity for pen drive - supports playing DIVX / MPG movies MP3 / wave etc Audio / jpeg pictures etc directly.

A lot of input options AV, S-VHS, RBG, HDMI, D-SUB (VGA).

hmm, It's high IMO. 41k with the TV and Airtel DTH should be better. See if you can bargain.

LG 32LH60 = Jazz Theatre. The choice is GREAT.

LG is so much better than Sony. I wonder why is Sony so hyped up.

Thanks Ico.

Got the LH60YR, looking good.
Paid 36,500 - no DTH and gave away the old TV. Need to get better at negotiating!

Everything works. I was given the impression that .avi video formats does not play on this one from the USB (compared to the Philips equivalent), but it does. So thats a bonus.

I had expected to be have more controls for audio (like an equalizer) given 5.1 channels and 10 speakers, but it has only treble and bass and you can switch between 5.1 and 3.1 channels. The size looked a bit underwhelming compared to when I saw it at the store. I would advise people to buy a larger size if you are debating, if you can afford it.

I also have a 500GB Screenplay drive connected to TV. The picture quality saw a HUGE improvement when connected with the HDMI cable to this TV. The earlier one did not have HDMI port and was connected through the AV cable.

Try encoding them to DivX and then play. Then they'll work.

Me and Liverpool_fan own the same 32" LG LH70 Scarlet 2.0. We had bought during Diwali and both had paid 40k. We had also got HDMI-upscaling DVD player and 50 movies [included].
