Lets just try and not post entire songs.. just post the part you love most.

well i think that unless its a romantic piece of lyric there is no point in posting it.songs with good lyrics might be a good idea though

I agree. Though I like the music, I think lyrics of heavy metal songs are trashy.

The lyrics I posted were from one of the most influential heavy metal band -Iron Maiden.
The song, Hallowed Be Thy Name, is revolving around a convict who is about to be hanged for his crimes, who claims that he will stare back at the gallows pole and is not afraid of dying, but is, in reality, petrified and does not want to die.

Agreed, there are some songs with lyrics which most wont like, but that doesnt give you the right to label the entire metal genre's lyrics as "thrashy" .

Just my view, I dont want to make a mountain out of a mole here.

Yeah, I didn't notice that. I like that song but I had not read the lyrics so carefully. But I would still stick to my views. Heavy metal songs are way too spiritual for me to understand. I won't call them trashy but you know terms like "the soul", "the devil", "death", etc. do make them sound dark and gloomy.
I would still prefer cheerful, romantic songs from the beatles, george michael, etc.

It depends on how you look at it, that's all
There are many metal bands that dont keep death as their subject, like Metallica (Iron Maiden does make music with lyrics using "Devil" "Death" etc. but the song always turns out to be lively rather than gloomy)
On such example is:

HBTN by iron maiden is the summer of 69 equivalent of metal.its sooo over rated.how can the band play a sort of melody for a song that describes a person dying.besides the song's lyrics are not close to the lyrical masterpieces we see today

-1 for lack of emotion on it.now all u maiden fans can go gaga over the playing

any1 genuinely interested in good lyrics without much cryptic or imaginary lyrics plz check out Dream Theater's Metropolis Pt.2 album.fab concept and execution

I wouldnt go as far telling it is the best song of IM there is, I mean, Fear Of The Dark, Aces High, Can I Play with Madness? are better songs IMO
However, HBTN has a real zing in it, makes my hair tingle every time I hear it, and is also a great song to listen to for the melody in it, time and time again

And yeah, DreamTheatre is awesome as well
