I went to watch it today and I gotta say its one of the best hindi movies i've ever seen. Even though I don't watch many, but my choice is restricted to the most popular ones, and this movie just topped them!

Cool Re: Anyone watched Dev D ?

I'VE NOT YET WATCHED THE MOVIE

I think if u are used to the type of movies Anurag Kashyap kakes, u'd love it.
I liked "No Smoking" and I shouldn't talk about "Black Friday"....

I guess he can be called our "Kubrick"...

^^+1 I too haven't seen the original.

By Psychedelic I hope it seems better than Dark Knight when it comes to MAINSTREAM psycological thrillers.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone watched Dev D ?

Alright, then I'm most knowledgeable on Devdas...

I've read the original Bengali novel
Old Bengali movie acted by Uttamkumar (I don't know anyone heard about him els bengalis)
Old Dileep kumar version
and
Shahrukh version

Its not a thriller (if I understood u correctly)...its love...lose...separation...self destruction...etc.

And, psychedelic in this movie...I think is the abstract presentation of the character's mind...Anurag Kashyap is best in it...

Thats the exact way I see dark knight. Behind the thriller is an AWESOME character contrast, involving THREE people, Batman, Harvy and Joker.

Anyway, the way you describe it, it looks like something to see. Lemme look out for it.

Its probably going to be one of those cult movies. Something like Mithya, but better. I love these movies, they are refreshingly good unlike the mainstream movies.

Alright folks, coming from Dev.D...

7.5 to 8 in 10 is my rating.

I expected it to be more abstract but Anurag Kashyap has toned down his art of abstract story telling from "No Smoking" level, I think everyone needs to think about business. BUT its still out there which none can touch...

The movie needs a bit editing to be more sharp and smart...
The Paro part of the movie is a bit slow at times and Mahie Gill was weak some places.
I mostly loved the Chanda (kalki Koechlin) and Dev part of the movie, the Chanda girl is brilliant. She definitely knows what she is doing.

Those who have not watched Devdas would like the movie but you have to keep ur mind open, its more like binary...either u'll like or dislike the movie...no mix reaction can be evoked seeing it.

Those who have watched and LIKED/LOVED the old Devdas, they would miss the Pain, suffocation and helplessness in this movie a bit. Dev.D is not emo movie like its ancestors, its more like in-ur-face movie; in this time no one has time to stop and repent for years and die of self-pity...u get a replacement, either u want it or u don't. It happens.
While in hall I didn't quite like it, but I think I like it now.

Good explanation and quite right, I am quite sure people who liked Devdas would not like this presentation for the same, its absolutely in contrast with the original (infact is not even in the same league), and I am sure that was intention of the director. Portrayed in a very explicit and direct manner. Dev D reflect the esthesia, egos, conflicts, aggression and dominance WITHOUT any trace of self pity. The exuberance of the youth of today, and how rashly he can play with his life without reflecting any remorse or pity from the ones viewing it, absolute freedom of thoughts, bold recklessness is what is been shown in DEV D;..... the only thing is..... the Director chose to show with a Devdas linearity in to it. (Its far far away in terms of Devdas remake)

Amazing bold move by Anurag, and those who feel its a crap are either not aware of how a rich spoiled brat (youth) could feel in dejection in todays generation or is to hypocritical too accept the reality....................4.5/5 for me for DEV D.

7\10,a 5\10 if the music wasn't so epic.

Anurag kashyap has tried to slow down the movie for the mainstream public, and he kind of failed.he should stop doing it,if they can't understand it,let it be.Abhay deol is great, atleast one of the deols know how to act.Mahie gill was mediocre at best-shes not so stunning and her acting was just okish. The second half was specially prolonged unnecessarily.Chunni too was a let down from the epic chunni babu(jackie shroff).

Kalki Koechlin-She was the best actor in the movie, overshadowing abhay deol most of the time, she knew what she was supposed to do and did it.

One of the best part in the movie is when Dev asks paro to come to his hotel, after her marriage.Thats part compares what is now and what could have been.Nice,You dont quite like the movie in the hall but it grows on you.

Say thanks for the review and pay be all your money biatches.:\

epic chunni babu was "Motilal" in original Devdas, not jackie, jackie was not even close....... infact if you ask me even sharukh was not close to what Dilip did in original Devdas.

PS:: Would like to add DEV D is in no way even close to a remake, as I said its just the linear Devdas approach the director took to show what he wanted to show.

Just watched it today! You gotta give it to Anurag. He knows what he is doing!! Although the major character is high most of the time , it's not like Trainspotting or Requiem of a Dream!Perfect review has already been given by rhitwick, so no point in continuing!! Only thing i'll like to add is the cinematography , which is probably one the best in hindi cinema!!

@esumitkumar: Is that No Smoking in your avater I'm seeing brother??

I saw the movie yesterday and it was awesome. The music perfectly complements the screenplay. I am already hooked on to it.

BTW one question (if i am not violating any TD rules). The movie is still not available on any of the torrents. Very surprising . Any clue why ??

But for this movie, please dont download it...go the the theater and watch...its worth it.
