MTNL Delhi Unlimited Plan n slow speed

just got broadband connection from MTNL Delhi with Unlimited 256 Kbps plan, but torrent/limewire, direct download speed never exceed 25/27 kbps, sometime in bittorrent for a sec or two i see 60/100 kbps (upload speed) than drop down back to 10-20 kbps (upload speed)....

You mean 25-27 kbps or KBps?

Remember if its 25-27 KB/s, it is 200-216 Kbps.

Anyway can you post the speed you get here, for better diagnosis:

If it's indeed as slow as 25-27kbps, I think first check whether a software or a service or virus has hogged the bandwidth. Use a Linux Live CD to determine the same.
If it is as slow then, I think there is problem in the lines and you have to contact MTNL.

I think according to the plan you are getting the right speed cause the unlimited plan which MTNL is providing is 256 kbps and not KBps. Its a common misunderstanding.

If u take 512 unlimited plan i think you will get around 50 or 60 kbps. Do correct me if I'm wrong.
