Hi Friends!
Since this is "The Offtopic Discussion" thread where even hardware pix and games come up for discussion, I hope nobody will object the following brief comments.
I guess many, if not most, of you guys have tried out Window 8 CP x64 included in one of the DVDs accompanying the June 2012 issue of Digit. I have. Here are my brief (really!) observations (Installation over Win 7 in the "Upgrade" mode, and full update of Win 8 so installed):

1. All my essential software that I use with Windows 7 X64, including all anti-malware, work, for most part.

2. One curious example is Microsoft's own Media Player which works, but with a limitation. The "seek" function doesn't work any more! Whenever I click on any point on the time-line, the video freezes, and no matter how many times I try the Play/Pause button, it stays put that way!

3. However, for me, the most certain deal breaker is really the much-maligned absence of the "Start Menu", although I installed Win 8 over my existing Win 7 installation in the "Upgrade" mode, keeping my data and settings intact. While I can easily see the familiar face of my shortcut-studed Win 7 by clicking on "Desktop", alas, no start menu! While I can make a synthetic start menu through some arduous ways suggested in some ZDnet tips, that's not good enough for me.

4. Without any convenient way to access all my software already installed in Win 7, the logical (and cheaper) "Upgrade" path to Win 8 would be a No-No for me.

2 seems to be a bug. I think it'll get sorted.

You're right on every part though. It is best for productivity users to stick with Windows 7 for the forseeable future. Windows 8 will need more UI changes.

Thanks for your comments. I can now rest assured that I did not do something silly myself to experience what I mentioned in my post. I fully agree with your view and am going to stick to Win 7, giving win 8 a wide berth, unless the said scenario changes for the better.
