i am in need of a great advice from all of you,,
right now, i have finished my third year btech in i.t and 4th year will start from august.
my past academic history is not that good.i passed 12th in 2006 with 72% cbse(cpmbpe)..and then i dropped a year ..
i got entry to one of the decent colleges ,,i passed 1st year with 65%,,then i became day scolar and believe it or not i flunked my second year ..i again repeated 2nd year and clear both 2nd and 3rd ..right now i will be entering 4th year with 62% with no current back ,,2nd year was my badesssst time,,,
now what should i do?..i have a litlle knowledge of html, sql,,
will iu get a decent job to kickstart my career??..will my 2nd year results act as hindrance??/pls advice

There is nothing to worry. Past is the past. If you keep on thinking about it ,nothing is going to happen. You have to move on.
You have no backlogs at present and that is a great thing. Now you have to make sure that you don't get any of them in the 4th year, because getting one in the final could change your fortune in case of placement.
Companies are looking for freshers without any backlogs. Right now you are in a good position. As I said keep on doing well in your in your final year, if that happens then automatically you will get placement and things will be nice.
Its hard to believe that you are in the 4th year and you still don't have much knowledge of SQL, and HTML. See , from B-Tech you will get only the basics ,rest you have to build by your own methods.
You need a B-Tech to get a job in a good company, but to maintain the job as it is you have to work really hard and that is what the industry wants.
You will get a decent job, there is no doubt about that. But please take care of the final year. Past is the past. Make sure that you average is around 60%+, don't go below 60% because you could be eliminated in those campus selections where there is a cut off .
By the way in which college do you study?
Wish you all the best !

Re: need advice
Btech.. IT, its a kind of course where they teaches more about administration than programming in computers.. so your technically your field should be computer managment . There is no issue if you know little HTML or sql.. but yes, you need to make sure that you are good in what you have learned through btech. Rest you will learn yourself and in training as knowledge requirement differs from job to job according to profile .

Re: need advice
yes you are right i.t course is more related to management of i.t..
i have studied following subjects upto now all related to management..
1)software project management
2)information technology management
3)industrial psychology
4)industral sociology
5)manegerial economics
6)industrial management...
7)organisational behaviour..
after all this management ..we do also have some core computer engineering subjects like software engineering, networks, dbms,co,os,DAA,oops, web tech, data strucures, dld, graphics, soft computind,automata...etc and many more..we also have half computer engineering and half mgmt subjects like information security and e-commerce etc,,AFTER ALL THAT WE HAVE ONLY ONE PROGRAMMING SUBJECT I.E**PROGRAMMING IN C** IN FIRST SEM THAT IS OF ONLY 5O MARKS,,
i dont know why we have to study so much management in i.t ..thats why i have so litlle exposure on programming,,and so large exposure opn mgmt..hjahaha..
@jiren....ya jssate is good college with 116 out of 128 students of i.t have placement with infosys selecting 294 students(75 are of i.t)..

there are more to come in 4th year..lolz
what should i do?,,should i work hard and hope that my chance will come or should i start mba preperation,,

Don't get embararassed by the management subjects! They have their own importance. Your 2nd year will not become a hindrance to the placement, so don't bother much about it. Instead keep looking for your current year.
Don't think of MBA right now. Just study well the remaining of B.Tech.

Re: need advice
Both Java and .Net are currently trending, but in my opinion you should go for Java, since Java has good scope in the future.

It may be referenced in your syllabus copy (for B.Tech.) First check that.
I am giving some links, but you will need to find more which will be suitable for you.

It is good to have some prior experience in programming, especially Object Oriented Programming. But not compulsory.

Re: need advice
^get into NIIT and do a course on JAVA. If possible keep an eye on doing SCJP at the same time.
AND, from now on concentrate on only one programming language.
