advice for summer training

i am doin btech in comp sc and currently am in 4th sem. i hav to do to some course or training over this summer.

I am absolutely clueless as to wht course to do.
i was thinking of learning php.
any advices? how will learning php help me later on?

Yup, learn anything that you like.

There are many options, PHP, ASP.NET, J2SE etc to name a few.

Yup, you can use your PHP skill if you want to work in Web Development domain, and if not you can use that skill for freelancing on web development projects in your free times.

wht use is learnig .net in the future? isnt java its counter part which is non os specific. then y is not learn java?
n any idea abt good training institutes? niit any good?

Look learn that you want to learn. Everything has it's own aspect and place. So learn anything that you like.

I don't know where are you from, but I'd not recommend NIIT, their charges are high but the teaching procedure is not good at all.(Personal Recommendation)

You can also opt for zara hatke things like Networking, SAP, Linux Administration etc.

Just choose whichever you like most and want to develop your career on, that will help you later.

I just completed my 4th sem, and decided to do an internship for the summer instead of going for one of these courses. This way you can add something to your CV (Oh, but I hate that work already!), understand office dynamics, and learn a little something along the way as well.

I asked quite a few people about this as well, and they told me that there is no point doing a PHP course as you can learn it through tutorials as well (If you are dedicated enough). As you are studying B.Tech, you will learn .NET, Java, and most other popular languages through this course anyhow.

You can get the work experience as well as study other courses side by side with that.

Java SE is certainly a better option! I also did my training after 4th sem in Java SE from NIIT Delhi.

I am not sure whether this is the appropriate place to ask, but since you brought it up, I would like ask a question.

How good is the quality of courses and faculty at the NIITs?? I do know that they offer a variety of courses, and promise to impart a great amount of knowledge, but I have heard from many people that the NIITs are substandard, and overpriced. However, since you have actually done a course there, would you recommend others to go through NIIT as well??

I'd say to stay away from NIIT. Their quality of teaching is not at all worth the price they charge. In our tech words in not VFM. Saying this from my personal experience.

How does one look for Internship in 4th Sem ? I already spend my sem break doing nothng more than learning PHP + MySQL and a bit of VB [ But that too on my own , no Certi s or anything , and to be honest thats why most students do the training , whether they learn anything nor not ]

I suggested him for the course, not for the NIIT! even I was somewhat not satisfied with NIIT(Pitampura, Delhi), that's why I am not doing this year training from NIIT.
After listening to my friends suggestions and some querrying, this time I am doing my post 6th sem training from CMC Noida in J2EE.
Choosing an institution is an individual choice, and yes I accept that last year I just went by NIIT's name.
Certainly they are everprized as well.

And I have heard that they also provide the internships as well!

It isn't easy to get an internship after the fourth sem as the companies know that you will not be any good as:
a)You do not have much knowledge or technical expertise
b)They cannot look at you as a potential employee because you still have a long way to go before you graduate

Therefore, the easiest way to get an internship is to go through a contact or preferably, your parents.

See if you have any contacts within the working industry who can recommend you. Your parents and relatives should be able to help you with that. If not, ask your college for help. They usually have contacts with companies and will be happy to help you out.

Large companies like IBM and WIPRO take interns by the dozen after they complete their 3rd year, so you can approach them too.

I've been to three institutes. And honestly none of them were upto the mark. If you are dedicated the internet is all you need along with a good book.
If I'd still have to take a pick i'd say NIIT over the others because it was 'less' bad.

I did Oracle(PLSQL/SQL+) in last sem, doing J2EE now.

I think Java courses are best when we are looking for long term concerned.I know one which is i think is the best for the industrial training purpose as they provide live projects to work on.
