Have you already passed engg. or still a student?

Which degree will you get (or u got) once you complete the course? And what is your stream in engg?

If you are interested in Database design, then you should try to get a certification; may be OCA / OCP.

There are 2 types of experience they ask in interview.
1) Total IT experience
2) Relevant IT experience.

Your experience in web designing for a DBA post will be taken as total IT experience but its not a relevant experience.
Mostly, recruiter needs a "relevant" experience while hiring for specialized posts.

What database technology? What do you want to do with databases ?

There are different branches
- Database design
- Database development
- Database Administration
- Database performance tuning
- Datawarehousing

Each requires different way of thinking. There is scope for each path.

Datawarehousing involves generating adhoc queries. Not the simple silly 10 line ones.

Wait.. You say 10 line queries are simple and silly?
Op is wanting to make career in that and instead of giving a advice, are you trying to make fun of him? :s

@Op,
Oracle apps is certainly a good career. But considering coming generation of cloud computing, data warehousing would be a very good option IMO.

Where am I making fun of him? All I mentioned was that DW doesn't involve simple queries.

@pavanpola Best wishes.
