Unhappy Dead Nokia N82 (New - 1 day old!!)

I tried updating the firmware to 30.xx.xx using Nokia Software Updater. It downloaded the firmware close to 115MB and after downloading the firmware it started installing it on the phone and after 75% progress suddenly the phone switched off. The battery was indeed fully charged. The updater screen just said "Phone connection is lost. Kindly remove the battery and replace it again and turn it on." On doing this, I just get one dim-white blank screen. When I called 30303838 customer care, they said remove the battery for 10 mins and insert it again. That also didn't work. Then the lady said press 3, Call button and the # button continuously to restore the phone to factory settings. That also didn't work. Now I am stuck with a new phone in a non-usable condition tomorrow being a holiday I can't even take it to Nokia Care.

Arey just take it to a service center and get it flashed with new firmware for free. No problems.

Maybe the USB connection was loose or something.

Hellgate did u change ur code to euro or waited patiently for the Apac firmware?? I waited for Apac firmware and smoothly updated to v30.

I read in some forums where mobiles got bricked when they changed there code to euro and then upgraded.
It seems even though the hardware is same, the firmware of different regions is not 100% compatible with each other.

I upgraded mine with Apac firmware n everything went on smoothly. But still I dont see a valid point for upgrading to 30.xxxx

Imroved battery life, sound (especially bass) through headphones, no distortion at higher volumes in speaker, improved asr, faster boot up time, speed and various other enhancements. Not much new features but various upgrades.

Overall this is much better than the previous firmware. Only sore point is the firmware is not yet hacked.

Ps. One can use ActiveFile (Manufacturer) app to access Private folders but u can't access Sys folder.
But since most of the hacks only use Private folders , i am not complaining

I do not know how the USB connection was lost. My laptop was on AC power, my phone was showing 100% battery. I just do not understand why it bricked. I didn't know if it is euro or apac. I just used Nokia software updater and clicked upgrade. Which should be intelligent enough when it detected the old firmware on my phone to be 20.x.xx

The point is I want to know how long it will take to flash the phone at Nokia Care. Every Nokia care that I call in Chennai seem to ask for 5-7 days to send it to head office and back. I do not intend to give my phone for one week which I haven't even used for one day. Is there any other way out? Calling 30303838 doesn't help much. And this is why I was away from Nokia for 2 yrs. Now I am regretting going back to Nokia.

Never ever buy Nokia product again

But seriously u should have upgraded from Nokia center , especially since u are using a Nokia mobile after a long time. This is what i tell to all newbies. Firmware updating should be done by only experienced users, and even a small mistake can brick ur phone.
For example even antivirus running in the background can cause problems.

All i can say now is wait for a week or keep a bricked phone with u forever.

GO to nokia centre they wil flash and give in a day..go early morning when it starts..

If you can shout/ convince the guy/gal there, it may be done faster..
Else ask them to replace the piece witha sealed pack one..

MAKE IT VERY CLEAR TO THEM THAT IF ITS NOT SEALED PACK OR IF YOU FIND THE SEAL BROKEN, YOU WILL NOT TAKE IT..

I do not understand your language. I spoke to a Nokia Care center opposite to Sathyam Cinemas. They said it will take just 45 mins to 1 hour. Tomorrow I am going there. Will keep the thread posted about the progress.

Bad experience with Nokia again as expected. They have forwarded the phone to some head office and they say will take a week. Nokia's toll free number says if it is forwarded elsewhere from the service center, it can take anywhere between 10-15 days.

Update!

I have got back my Nokia N82 with the latest firmware after flashing. The Nokia ASC was virtually unreachable cos always the landline was engaged. After 7 working days went to the service center directly and got it. Have just started using GPS. The box says 3 months free navigation. Does it mean voice assisted GPS is only valid for 3 months? And how do I activate it?
