Re: Buying N73 ME.
actually you dont have anything to look for as its a pretty dated phone (its been there since 2006) so the firmware will be latest only

Re: Buying N73 ME.
The only problem with n73 is that it does not have a standard 3.5mm jack so you have to carry its adapter with you always , also look at the manafacturig date on the box since new ones come with the firmware update so you wont have to deal with trouble to update its firmware online .
look for firmware version 4.0808.4.2.2 or higher .

Re: Buying N73 ME.
I think its 4.0808.4.2.2 but not sure
. it was released around november 07 dont know if any new one is released later.
Also there is no way to check the firmware version on the phone before buying it . Just see the manafacturing date and try to get a new piece .
Its still a mystery but nokia says it has 64 mb ram .Last edited by rohan_mhtr; 24-03-2008 at 11:10 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Re: Buying N73 ME.
N73 is a rocking phone ..
Also , Firmware v4.0808.4.2.2 has been pulled off by Nokia
... newer N73's are already shipping with v4 firmwares so wait for the newer firmware to come out ...
Also , N73 ME coupled with EP630 is as good as N81 if not better .. its down to the music player at last ... Also , N73 is also under NGage2.0 platform , so that won't be a issue .. and u get an awesome 3.2MP cam
..

Re: Buying N73 ME.
Ya. i know n73 is under ngage platform .i saw it last week on the nseries portal. the latest firmware is 4.07xxxx i suppose.
Another thing is that i am not going to wait anymore. i waited for it since september 2007 as i didnt wanted to spoil my board exams which will end today

Re: Buying N73 ME.
N73 is good phone in this range.
Its current firmware is 4.0736xx. The 4.08 version was pulled back soon after it was released as it was buggy.
And regarding RAM. GSM arena says it has 64 MB RAM. But actually it has 44 MB. From this, 22 MB is allocated to the system and you will have 22 MB free memory after a fresh restart. But after installing a few apps and using the phone for a month or so, the free memory will stay around 15-17 MB depending on what all apps you are running on the background.
I have tried ngage 2.0 first access games in it and its pretty fast.
I have around 40 applications installed(testing new ones everyday) and still the phone isn't slow.Last edited by Lucky_star; 25-03-2008 at 08:42 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Re: Buying N73 ME.
At the most i will be multitasking by running music in background while surfing the net so that much ram will suffice . i have to go to exam hall after an hour and i am foruming here

What price should i expect it to be? my frnd told me its 12.5 k but today in the newspaper its written 13.9k .Last edited by utsav; 25-03-2008 at 11:24 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Re: Buying N73 ME.
^^ The phone does have 64 MB , that 22 MB is actually kept just for the OS to access , but even then the OS keeps accessing from the rest 44 MB mem. .. back at nokia forums , they said that by the next few firmwares , the full 64 MB will be made free ..
And btw , i'm using v4.0750.31.2.1 .. donoo why they pulled this off the net , coz this is the fastest firmware i've used on the N73 .. and the one that actually has some demand paging into it ..
Some features u can expect in the later firmwares : better Demand Paging , More free Mem. , around ~ 30 MB at start .. faster loading of Gallery .. better Music Player . Intergrated Nokia Maps , Updated Flash Lite (version not specified yet , but could be v3.0) , Update QuickOffice and Adobe PDF reader ...
Being included in the NGage 2.0 platform got this phone some attention from the Nokia developers group

Re: Buying N73 ME.
Good choice Utsav.
What about N95?U ditched it?
The phone has around 20 MB free ram & with time it goes on decreasing.
I suggest you reboot it once in a day, to get good fast performance.ShutterTux - Photography, Linux & Life! : http://shuttertux.wordpress.com

Re: Buying N73 ME.
I was going to update to 4.0750 version, when I read that most of the phones crashed during the update process. And soon after that they removed that firmware. Now i am waiting for the next stable release. Still happy with the old 4.0727.

^^ Really? How much free ram are you having after startup? and what is the camera startup time in this 4.0750 version?

Re: Buying N73 ME.
@utsav : Great man!!!Congrats for the new phone...
in advance
I'm also buying the same by this weekend,it's priced @ 13.5K here in bangalore.I donno about nokia priority dealers, heard there is a price diference..Not sure though..
Also frns(N73ME owners specially),they are bundling HS-23 headset with it which i think lacks a 3.5mm jack.Is it so???If yes then what are the alternatives??
P.S Sorry for hijacking your thread utsav...Really i'm..Last edited by Sharx; 25-03-2008 at 04:15 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Re: Buying N73 ME.
Well , didn't exactly count the startup time .. but its definitely faster than previous firmwares particularly with font router ..
And about free mem. .. well . at startup its around 20-21 MB ... but the best part it the demand paging which actually free unused mem. .. Suppose u use gallery for some time , and close it .. after some time , when u again start using the phone , u'll notice that some mem. is actually emptied .. Meaning ..
Standby - 18 MB
Gallery Running - 14.4 MB
Gallery Closed , Standby - 14.4 MB
Music Player launched after some time - ~16.8 MB ...
The best part is that if u launch gallery after this , its actually loads up faster than the first time , meaning most necessary files were still cached .. now i can actually run the phone over days at a stretch without worrying about the mem. getting chocked up
