Default iPod 4GB- Scratch Problem?

Hi frnds,
I had made up my mind to get the iPod Nano 4GB model [3g] (NOT THE OLD NANO) and i googled "ipod nano 4gb problems" to kno the pros and cons. I came to know abt the scratch problem prevelant in the nano model.

Now i am confused: is this "Scratch Problem" limited to the earlier model of Nano ( the one which was slimmer and longer and had no videos- 2G) or is this the problem of the NEW 3G Nano.

Pls help.

Also lemme know whats the approx price of the 4GB model in India, the US price is US$149, wich is approx. Rs.6k

You are absolutely the master of stupid, useless posts (not to mention, really crappy jokes).

@enticer86
I'm afraid it is a problem with the third generation model. The second generation had an anodised aluminium casing on both the back and front which is pretty much scratch proof, but the new models bring in the shiny steel back again and that is prone to scratches.

The problem is with the constant stream of stupid posts, not with them being about Apple. It is not a one time occurrence.

The guy needed some help. If you can offer some valuable insight, feel free to volunteer. If you cannot, just STFU.

In any case, please don't post really lame jokes (written in horrible English)!

That's all I'm saying...

The 'scratch problem' was present in the 1G Nano with its glossy front and back body, not to mention extreme affinity to fingerprints, but disappeared in the 2G when Apple made the body out of anodised aluminium. Now Apple decided to bring the chrome finished rear back, and not just on Nano, but on Classic and Touch as well. The rear side get scratched after a while in all these three models. Your best bet is to get a full body cover.

The 4gb 3G Nano costs about 7k in Mumbai.

U better look beyond iPod. It is a very restrictive device, better go with Creative Zen or Sandisk Sansa

There are only two problems with the current generation nano:
1. Scratches; and
2. Cover Flow is a bit sluggish.

Apart from that, every single thing about the device has been praised in the reviews I have read so far. I've used it myself and I have the following observations:
1. The screen is mind blowing. For such a tiny device, Apple has packed in one hell of a screen. The videos look very crisp and the colours are all very vivid. Of course, it is small but it is definitely the best among the small screens. Apple does makes the best displays.
2. The overall interface is very responsive and a pleasure to use.
3. The device is unbelievably small.
4. The click wheel. Call it bias or call it anything you want but I just cannot live with other MP3 players now. No click wheel. I know a lot of people who buy the iPod just for the click wheel. It is just so damn convenient that it will make you forget all the flaws of the device.

The drawbacks are the same lot:
1. No radio by default.
2. The thing is so friggin' tiny that you might lose it.
3. iTunes for Windows is a bit on the sluggish side.
4. Does not come with a charger (this particular thing drives me batty).

I would recommend you to buy it. Cover Flow is, IMHO, not as useful as advertised but the overall package is delectable. If nothing else, buy it for the click wheel, the screen and the sheer size of the device.

Have a look at Creative Zen

With expandable memory & bigger screen then iPod nano 3rd gen. U don't even need to convert videos to some specific format like iPod Video, u can simply copy your DivX or Xvid videos to Zen & it will play directly.

You can copy files, songs & video to & from Zen anywhere on any computer, without the need of any special software like iTunes in case of iPod without which u cannot use it on any other computer. You can use zen on any OS whether Linux, Mac OS or Windows.

Seriously dude, stop following the sheep hurd & look beyond iPod. With Zen out, I can't see a reason to buy iPod anymore.

drawbacks can b kicked!
1. I seldom use the radio- i prefer my collection of MP3s
2. ummm.. i wud tk much more care fr the same, thanks fr cautioning me.
3.,4. I already m using Shuffle Clip-on model and the speed is ok.. not too bad... and Well, i won't mind lettin the PC remain on fr some time to charge the pod.

ok, first off .... the new nano is virtually scratch proof in the front, especially the silver colour. But the back, it is absolutely the single most scratch - able surface ever invented. Put it in your pocket and take out, there will be a few scratches.

I strongly suggest the iRiver clix 2G if you can find it. Look it up and consider it. It is also the highest rated MP3 player on Cnet.

and 150$ is not 8000.... 200$ is 8000... 150$ is 6000. And creative is available in India so you really won't have to pay duty etc....

If you must go for an iPod, buy the 80gb Classic instead of the Nano, if you can stretch you budget.

You have to do it manually. iTunes gives you a more comfortable interface to add/change the ID3 tags but the hard work has to be done manually.
