    My smartphone picks:

    Android:
    Spoiler:

    International Brands:
    Spoiler:

    5-10k:
    Spoiler:
Sony Xperia E1: Android 4.3, 4" WVGA display, snapdragon 200 dualcore yet costing just 7.5k. Custom rom may arrive. Check dual sim too.
Gionee P4: Faster processor, more ram, bigger display and dual sim. Grab this if you prefer performance over brand. Cost is 9k

    10-15k:
    Spoiler:
    *MY PICK*:
    Spoiler:
Motorola G: Go for 16GB. Period.

    Alternate:
    Spoiler:
Sony Xperia L: Want expandable memory, removable battery, non-stock, better camera? Get XL.

    15-20k:
    Spoiler:
    *MY PICK*:
    Spoiler:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: Dualcore Krait 300 (compared to krait 200 in competators), S-AMOLED display. Resolution is slightly low and ships with old version of Android.

    Alternate:
    Spoiler:
Gionee E7 Mini: POWERHOUSE. STYLE. BUDGET.

    20-25k:
    Spoiler:
    *MY PICK*
    Spoiler:
Motorola Moto X: Always listening natural language processor, Active Notification and lastly Android 4.4 out of the box. Performance wise it manages to match quadcores and even beat them. Reason to ignore?

    Alternate:
    Spoiler:
Sony Xperia ZR: Moderate size HD display, quadcore Krait chipset with Adreno 320, water proof and a 13MP shooter at the back. If you don't want to sell out more for Nexus 5, the price on this one is just right.

    Phablet:
    Spoiler:
Gionee Elife E7 (16GB): Snapdragon 800, 2GB of ram, 5.5" of FULL HD goodness. But still stuck with Android 4.2 and has a low capacity battery.

    25-30k:
    Spoiler:
    *MY PICK*:
    Spoiler:
LG Nexus 5 16GB: Android 4.4 KitKat, FULL HD IPS+ display, Snapdragon 800 SOC, optically stabilized camera. If possible increase budget by few thousand and grab the 32GB version.

    Alternate:
    Spoiler:
Samsung Galaxy S4: One of the best camera in an Android phone backed by Android 4.4 KitKat and a brilliant 1080p S-AMOLED display. Though the chipset (Exynos 5 Octa) is rather weak and so is battery backup.

    Phablet:
    Spoiler:
Gionee Elife E7 (32GB): Same as the 16GB version but along with the bump in internal memory, ram increases to 3GB

    30-35k:
    Spoiler:
LG Nexus 5 32GB: 32GB version of Nexus 5. Marginally costly than 16GB version.
LG Optimus G2 16GB: The no nonsense phone. Lacks microSD card slot. May check 32GB version

    Above 35k:
    Spoiler:
Its your pick. Weight build quality against the price. Avoid comparing useless features to another useless features.

    Indian Brands:
    Spoiler:
    5-10k:
    Spoiler:
    Cheap:
    Spoiler:
XOLO A510S: Much needed upgrade to A500S with 1GB ram. Price increased to 7500

    Phablet:
    Spoiler:
Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus: 5.0" qHD display, quadcore Cortex A7 chipset, 1GB ram, 8MP camera with FHD recording. At 1800mah, battery may't last the day. Price is just 9k

    *MY PICK*:
    Spoiler:
Lava Iris 406Q: At 7k this is what you get: Snapdragon 200 dualcore, 1GB ram, 5MP camera with 720p video recording. Did i mention Android 4.3 with high chance of android 4.4 update?

    10-15k:
    Spoiler:
XOLO Q1100: The only mobile from Indian manufacturer worth considering above 10k. Spec similar to Moto G along with a bunch of improvements. Way to go XOLO.

    Above 15k:
    Spoiler:
Avoid all Indian branded mobiles above 15k. You get almost same hardware as that of 10-15k range with slightly more internal memory. Instead go for Windows Phone or Android from reputed brands. Don't fall for their nonsense ads.

    Windows Phone:

    Spoiler:

    5-10k:
    Spoiler:
Nokia Lumia 525: Lumia 520 with 1GB ram but lacks a flash, front camera and the usual WindowsPhone limitations.

    10-20k:
    Spoiler:
wait for new entries with 1GB ram and updated display.

    20-25k:
    Spoiler:
Nokia Lumia 1320: A massive screen with HD resolution. The cheapest of the WindowsPhone phablet.

    25-30k:
    Spoiler:
Nokia Lumia 925: Packing a big sensor and the Pureview tech while being further enhanced by Optical Image Stabilization. But internal memory gets halved and with no memory card slot.

    Above 35k:
    Spoiler:
    Nokia Lumia 930: Coming soon.

You saved me the trouble to make a thread for the best Android around Rs. 14k.
    I have a shortlist now!

An effort like this can't be awarded with a "thank".

But thanks anyway...!! Thanks for this new year gift...

    Nice compilation SAM good work

just found 2 corrections under 15-20k section
    1. Defy+ screen resolution is 480X854 and not 480x584 as written there.
    2. u have named both sections as android smartphone, one should be non-android

    Great work Sam. Some points-

    1) In 15-20K section, you've written Non-Andriod section as "Andriod"

    2) What about adding a column for internal memory, especially in sub 20k section as they do matter.

    3) In second line from top- spelling of PRICELIST.

    4) One more suggestion of picking 1 or 2 better phones as suggestions in each section. You can take members help who own them.

    5) A section of info about mobile processors, chipsets, and graphics would help users a lot.!

    (no offence to Symbian users...)

    1. corrected.
    2. its there for Android mobiles in sub 20k. for the non-Android mobiles, this doesn't really matter i think. i'll check into this.
    3. thanks. was a typo.
    4. initially i too thought same. but some may ask why i gave preference to one & ignore the other. so i gave a note at the end of each section which describes in simple language what you need to look at when buying a mobile within that budget.
    5. yes. that is a nice idea. will surely do some research & add it in coming days. thanks for the tip

this is specially true for the old Symbian S60s. those can't be compared to Androids at all. even the dumb OS, BADA (no offence to Samsung Wave owners but BADA 1.* is crap) outmatch & outclasses them in looks & usability. Symbian Anna & then Belle has reduced the gap but still lot has to be done.

i will post regularly (but lately). rooting & installing custom rom is fun & easy. just read the important guidelines given in their respective thread. try something random & you may make the mobile unresponsive or at most need to reinstall the rom again.

not possible. every mobile have many roms. some have rom in hundreds. then add overclock & you are looking at around 100 different configurations per mobile. also quadrant will always be high for custom rom even for slower mobiles. have seen Galaxy5 score around 1.5k in quadrant. outmatching almost all highend mobiles with stock rom.

^ A simple Google search could have saved you a lot of embarrassment!
But if you got genuinely failed in search attempts, here is the app, which is in question here...
    https://market.android.com/details?i...standard&hl=en

It's a benchmarking app, which gauges the capabilities of your android phone, with respect to other phones.

No hard feeling dude.. just felt like a little trolling.. thats all...

Btw, @Sam: I am finding Motorola Defy to be a good phone for my friend, as long as he doesn't have that "brand" mania. (He says he don't like "Motorola" and that he have used "Motorola Phones", don't know how to remove the mania from him).

Just wanted to confirm one thing. Does Motorola Defy really have 1.3 Gb as internal memory? Cause, GSMArena says it has 2 GB!
