i mean.. if i have any pdf file.. can i transfer that to Kindle from PC and read on it.. or in order to read on Kindle its mandatory to download ebook from amazon only ?

^^^ you can transfer it via usb, just like a pen drive. You can read either pdf or convert pdf to mobi and then transfer. mobi are more instrument friendly to read.
