Now as BSNL is down since last few days, i'm thinking about installing squid on my system. But i don't know

1. How to configure it?
2. Will i be able to use internet on same system on which i'm installing squid?
3. How to install it on Ubuntu 32-bit 8.04.1

Please help!!

How would squid help if your ISP's server is down?

Then install squid and start reading it's docments and set it up. What's the point in asking such things if you want to learn?
Here's some notes on setup of squid at FOSS Lab - http://wiki.filledvoid.com/doku.php/squid
more or less it was all setup by GNUrag. Hardly anything to configure really. Just setup the Listen variable, then point your browser to use that port and URL as proxy.
If you want to do additional stuff like blocking users, scheduling, removing ads, blocking url's, blocking certain file types, integrating with ldap and all that requires a lot more playing around with.
And remember to have a larger /var partition cos squid tends to fill up /var quite fast.

Update :- After installing Squid, everything is working fine under Ubuntu.. i mean every site which was not accessible can be now accessed.. i wonder if the guys at BSNL wanted me to install proxy server :D
