Hi,
I had bought a Seagate FreeAgent Go 160 GB External Drive 6 months ago. Last week, its mini usb port broke off.
Could any one please suggest what should I do now.
I opened up the casing and took the drive out. Its a eSATA type hdd.
I did go to some shops on Brigade Road,Bangalore to get an external eSATA type hdd casings. The dealers were showing me two types of casings. I tried connecting the drive to the local chinese casings but they were not detecting the harddisk.
The dealer was trying to sell me Transcend External casing, but was not ready to allow me to test it before purchasing.
Now my questions are.
1. Can I get this mini usb port repaired? I mean can it be soldered again?
2. If not, how do I connect this drive to my laptop? If I need to buy a new hadrdrive casing, which one? from where? how much will it cost?
3. Has any one else on the forum also faced this problem? I googled for the problem and found out that this is very common problem with this perticular model of external hard disk.
Would appreciate your help on this.
Regards,
Mohit
