Hey guys i have a HP Compaq 6710b Notebook running Vista Business. These days it is giving me lots a trouble. The problem is that it hangs permanently just a few minutes after everything is booted up and ready to roll, only the cursor moves while everything is drop dead. This problem started a few days ago.In the first few days of this problem the laptop used to work for hours before it hanged.I even formatted my hdd and reinstalled everything but still the problem persists.
I Guess my hdd is busted......Please help me guys.....
Run the Diagnostics from the BIOS menu ( I think Compaq still has this feature )
Once you eliminate any hardware issues, format the laptop and do a manual install of the OS instead of restoring the crap from Compaq.
If you still face the same issue, its time to contact Compaq tech support and ask for a replacement HDD or motherboard, based on their troubleshooting.
My guess is that its not a hardware issue. Some start up program might be causing this. A clean install of the OS will solve your problem I hope.

Install hard drive inspector to check whether ur hard drive is fine or not...hopefully it would be fine. If so try installing windows xp sp2 or sp3 or even fedora 9.
seems u have EITHER Harddrive OR overheating issues.. do check if ur system is overheating!!!
moreover check one thing more whether ur harddrive is giving any kir-kir noise or not?
do reply.
