I have recently put together a PC with the following specs
CPU: Q9450 (2.66 GHZ)
Mobo: MSI P7N Platinum (nVidia 750i chipset) 1333 FSB v1.0 (BIOS flashed to the latest version 1.2)
RAM: OCZ 1 GBX 2 1066 DDR2 (SLI Ready Edition)
GPU: EVGA 9800GTX SSC
CPU: Cooler: Thermal right 120E
PSU: Tagan 700 BZ
OS: Windows XP (SP2) updated to SP3
Other software:
Adobe Photoshop CS3
MS Office 2003 (SP3)
NERO 7 Premium
Kaspersky Anti virus and Anti hacker
System Mechanic Pro 6
Spyware Blaster 4.1
The problem I encounter is that after installation of software that requires the system to restart or if I try to restart the system using the “Turn off Computer> Restart” TAB, it does not restart.
The log off screen says that windows is shutting down, the screen then goes blank and goes into power saving mode after some time. During this time fans of the CPU and system are still running.
To restart I have to hold down the power button for 3-4 secs to shutdown and then boot up or press the Reset button which restarts the boot process.
The BIOS has an option to enable ACPI under Power Management (which I have enabled), when I tried to disable the ACPI option it kept rebooting into BIOS POST without going to the OS.
The computer state under Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System>System Properties>Device Manager, double clicking on the Computer tree shows ACPI Multiprocessor PCI. I have tried changing the Hardware Application Layer (HAL) by update drivers’ option with no success
I shall be grateful if you could help me with this problem
