What type of USB modem from which service provider works best on a MacBook using Mac OS?
Any pointers?

What exactly are you trying to do? In any case, I've seen both Reliance and TATA usb things being used with OS X. Just depends on which of the two services gives better range in your area.

I am just trying to use the Reliance Netconnect usb. I plug it in nothing happens. In the network configuration it is not detected as a device.

You need a modem script for that. Ask your apple store if they can provide you with one.

You can use BSNL EVDO. Cheap and great speeds.
