Man .. i love Pirate Bay  for having guts to stand up against those Corporate D!ck heads....:p :p :p

The PIrate bay, which calls itself the world’s largest bittorent tracker, has announced its intention to file for damages against The International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI) an organisation which claims to represent the interests of recording industries worldwide. The website want compensation for the trafic that was blocked by a Danish ISP after a court ruled that it had assisted copyright infringement after allowing access to the site. The ruling apparently contravened European union Law.

The pirate bay has also announced that any money it recieves in settlement will be used to provide grants to Danish musicians who share their music online. Earlier, They had launched, a new website, called the Jesper bay after the head of Danish IFPI, which contained instructions on how to circumvent the block.

The original ruling has also come under scrutiny because The PIrate Bay was not involved in the Procedings at all and was not heard in court. The IFPI also had no rights over the music of some of the people it claimed have suffered as a result of file sharing, and had names them in the law suite without consulting them. It also transpired that the police officer incharge of the investigation might have been hired by Warner Bros while the investigation was in progress.

Prior to this, the PIrate Bay had also filed a police complaint against anti-piracy company Media Defender, which works on behalf of Sony, Universal, Paramount and Ubisoft amongst others. The Pirate Bay showed tha emails leaked from media defenders servers clearly showed that the company had launched illegal denail of service attack on the pirate bay’s servers, engaged in illegal hacking and repeatedly flooded them with spam.

Note : When Torrent is of much debate today.. i think we here in Thinkdigit shouldnt Stop users from discussing about torrents...
Hence i request mods to think about the issue before locking the thread...

Our Net neutrality may be at stakes simply by putting a roadblock on talks regarding Torrents and filesharing...

I'm dead against piracy. It is doubtlessly illegal.

But blocking torrents to avoid piracy is insane. It is just a network protocol much like HTTP/FTP. Why is the world so biased against a network protocol?

there is also a good side to piracy dude.. to be frank.. i recently happened to hear soongs of within tempation (WT) as suggested by nish_higher and man i am in love with WT...

this has made me to buy next album of WT , which i always do to all my fav artist like evanescene, BSB, TATU , Britney , etc...

yes i downloaded from torrents to hear the songs.. without them i would have never herd about WT...

torrents have also made me to avoid cetain artist like Duffy etc... coz they suck to core.. ( this is my p/s view ) ... do u think to hear to a crap music like that i should go and buy 500-700 Rs CD ??? are u insane ??? with my tight buidget... i cant .. and no ordinary indian could afford..

if i like the artist .. i would definetly buy thier album and get ticket of thier concert...and promote them to my friends ..

so i think piracy is also helping them ... now instead of crying of piracy... look at the real matter...

when was it last time a case won by MPAA or RIAA , these groups really payed money/compensation to artist ??? for which they fought ???

but look at wht TPB ( the pirate bay ) is doing ... whtever money they are getting .. they are spend ing it on artist... thats real show of love.. for music.

Every person has his own views. But I rarely see what you say happening both in software and music world. They make copies by violating the copyright of software or music and continue to make more and more copies and redistribute them.

Very very few use pirated copies for review alone. A big majority uses only the pirated copy never buying an original one. :(

each year a hollywood movie breaks record earning of prev years block buster movie ?? how is that ???

each year there are many people who are exposed to music.. ( i mean teenagers )
and so many people are buying and also love music... which inturn makes promoting the music and as well as buyingthe album...

maybe many are using only pirated music... but wait these guys will NEVER buy a album .. even if there isnt any torrent... recently i read article regarding this.. and also when these record labels are trying to eatup the profit OF ARTIST for thier own sake .. i dont see any difference between a filesharer and a greedy corporate company who dictates terms...

today i rarely buy a tamil movie CD , coz with around 5-7 FM.. i can always hear latest songs all the time on any of these FM channels....wht do u say about that ???

if this is the case.. in india think about in america and othercountries...

its the ineveitable effect of technology...

instead i think ISP`s can charge a nominal 50 Rs a month extra.. and directly distribut to ARITST not the RIAA or MPAA...

Well, the FM channels would have paid them for the license to broadcast it. Anyway, I agree with the point you raised about those who use only pirated music. :)

thanks...

think of time around 70`s and 80`s .. nice music are always shared and enjoyed... music is for everyone.. not for the people who have cash to buy an album....

I agree with that (just as I agree for free software), but acheiving it by illegal means like piracy is what I don't agree with. :(

i am just saying .. these big companies should start thinking of alterante way for getting money instead of suing people from which THEY GOT RICH ... and making thier life miserable.. this cant be tolerated at any cost...
instead ask them to buy that album which they pirated...

if they cant stop or will not stop .. piracy is the stone to shatter thier glass house...

I agree that they should not overdo things. But rather than pirating their stuff and in turn promoting them, why not promote those artist who do provide royalty free music (may not be the most famous).

Anyway, we have our own standpoints on this, so no point arguing. :D

if u look at piratebay`s homepage.. many times they promote individual artisit/ small band / artist who share thier stuff to torrent .. on the front page... there by exposing these new music artist to millions of people.. who use piratebay...

wht pirate bay is doing should have been done by money grredy RIAA/MPAA...

^^ He He true. It is stupid to block a whole network protocol just because it was misused. If that is the case, we must block Flash as it was misused to cause mental agony to many internet users. :D

No action (except ridiculing the senders) has been taken by us because of these. :-)

Nice graphs for the law firms who don't get the hint above:

(we used to have a nice graph here, but it's simpler to just say: 0 torrents has been removed, and 0 torrents will ever be removed.)

The Pirate Bay, I bow to thee!!! :D

legal threat of Indiana Gregg (Gr8pop ltd) (2008-06-22) is one fine sample for starter swho want to know who and what TPB are...

i have heard a news that .. a indiviual artist whose album was published on TPB contacted with brokep (http://blog.brokep.com/) in a decent manner to delete that particul;artorrent and other related torrents... and it seems brokep did delte that particular torrent...
