you need to create mySQL database first (i hope your host support it) i.e database name, database users and database passwords.

download and install Filezilla (you can also use cuteFTP but Filezilla is an open source freeware).

download and unzipped the phpBB3 file.

log on to your ftp website and upload phpBB files using Filezilla.Filezilla will tell you whether files are uploaded successful or not.

log onto your website.if the path of your install lies at for example at www.yourdomain.com/ (http://www.yourdomain.com/) (remeber this / i recommend to install at this path not like /phpBB).if your installl part is at / type www.yourdomain.com/install.php (http://www.yourdomain.com/install.php) or type www.yourdomain.com/install (http://www.yourdomain.com/install) or type www.yourdomain.com (http://www.yourdomain.com) (either of the three will work if you upload it correctly). The phpBB installation wizard will start and bingo you can start your forum.

its not that hard,if you dont understand google it further.:)

^ phpBB is more vulnerabe among the free forum softwares. On the other hand, MyBB has a very active security team.
Plugin/mod installation with phpBB is a PITA. You need to edit the core files. With MyBB, you simply have to upload the mod file and then you can activate or deactivate it through admin CP. There is no need to edit a single file or a line of code.

Also many features that requires mods for phpBB are present by default in myBB.

I have once tried installing phpBB mods for a member here and I can safely tell you from my experience that 'dump phpBB, go for MyBB. Save yourself the PITA!'
