OpenOffice doesn't open

I get the following error when I try to open OpenOffice Calc/Writer/Presentation on Ubuntu 8.04.
"The application cannot be started.The user interface language cannot be determined. "

Please guide me to solve that problem. I have reinstalled it, but of no avail

type oowriter and press ENTER
Ypu'll probably have the same problem, then copy paste the terminal output here. Let's see.

Problem solved. The openoffice directory in /usr/lib was not accessible to my user account. I just changed permissions and it started working
