Yeah its not practical to read a book with a mobile(To small fonts due to screen size) unless u wanna read only 20-30 pages. Also pdf reader for mobile requires a lot of memory.pdf above 1 MB wont probably open well.
Try www.getjar.com for free e-book reader.Anyview reader & mobilpdf are solid choices.U can also try the Tequila Cat Book Reader which converts the format to .jar i think....

1 Try MobilePDF http://gallery.mobile9.com/f/293149/
Its PDF reader for JAVA based phones but you need a memory heap of 128kb.
Will work on most Nokia and SE phones. But if you have LG phones (or other older phones), read below option 3.
2 If you have Symbian phone. Get Adobe Reader
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforsymbian.html
3 If nothing else works for you. Do this (I do this on my LG KG300). Convert .pdf to .txt and make .jar file of it using mjBook Maker http://www.mjsoft.nm.ru/booke.htm
Install the .jar file just like you would install a game on your phone. mjBook Maker has options to add pictures to your ebook and is completely free. This should work on almost any JAVA phone.

Thats a huge difference...
JAR is Java ARchive but thats still an impossible compression to achieve.
