Use a virtual printer like Cute PDF + ghostscript to use the Print option in Word and Excel to convert the files to PDF.

Use either Ghost script /Jaws PDF Creator /Foxit Pdf Creator Software... Install it . The Program installs as "printer". Using the print option will generate the required pdf file of .doc /.xls file. If using office 2007 install the save as pdf plugin.

LOL.. Sorry :)) Download these 2 software: Ghostscript and CutePDF writer. Install both. This will install a new printer: PDF generator. To convert any document to print, just use the print option in that software (word, excel, IE, FF etc.) and select PDF writer as the printer. The document would be converted as a PDF. Hope now its clear :)

You don't need any "physical" printer attached, I guess it will create a dummy "virtual" printer to fool the printing software into making a pdf.

It will work..The printer you will install will be a virtual printer..Give it a try.. The software's interface is pretty easy.. @least try 1st...

Use openoffice.org. It's quite big in size but easiest to create pdf's in.

^^But the size of pdf file created is larger if you create it using open office as compared to using other convertors

I converted the same doc file with openoffice and its size was 60KB. When I did the same thing with PDF Creator, it was just 21 KB

^Oh, hmm. You did that on windows?
Coz AFAIK, On *nix both OpenOffice and Abiword use a virtual cups printer.
Dont know how things go in the windows version of OO.o

If using Office 2007, you can download the SaveAsPDF plugin and create a PDF.

- install any of the softwares suggested above(my one more suggestion - PDFfactory)
- open the word file
- select print option
- in select printer option, select any of the softwares you have used from above
After clicking print, it will save the file in pdf instead of actually printing, avoiding any need of a real printer.
