I've kinda started hating Acer! I purchased Aspire 5100 two years ago. And never felt that i made a good decision buying it. It had AMD 2GHz and Ati 1100, but its performance was worse than my old P-III 800, 192 MB RAM!! I increased the memory to 512 and then to 2 GB. marginal improvement. Ubuntu would take ages to boot up on it. It started giving problems like freezing up last month. Finaly, last week, keyboard touchpad and USB ports just stopped working. So i can see my lappy start boot into windows and stare at the screen for howsoever long i want. Little bit of googling made it clear that this is a design fault with (at least this particular model) acer. There are so many people who are suffering with the exact problem with same model all over the world. Turns out that the company never ever thought of recalling the model from the market! T
Coming back to the thread, Now that mine is gone and I need one desperately. Something that can be reliable without need of repair. My Budget is around 50K. Looking for one with descreet graphix card. Want to work with Photoshop on it.
What i could make out from internet, that Dell has an excellent customer support.
Any suggestions??

Acer is quite good. You get models without XP and Vista to reduce cost. Take a look at their gemstone series(hardware eyecandy with performance) for example.
Even Compaq is good, and in many performance and feature related ways better than acer, but low on looks(too much executive or business like; plain)
Both these companies are the best in 30-35k range, so remember that.
Dell Inspiron 1525 is the newcommer, and it also is awssome.
Acer Gemstone series is good. I agree the older models of Acer had issues but the new series are real VFM and perform quite well too, for 35k budget, you cant get better (even in Compaq).
Since you have your own OS, I cannot see a better option for you other than Acer gemstone. Keep Compaq as the second option.
