CERN creates a new super-fast internet

Apparently, when CERN isn't colliding particles (and ripping massive holes (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/28/us-lawsuit-calls-large-hadron-collider-a-doomsday-machine-higgs/) in the space-time continuum), it's busy working on a new "internet" which will be 10,000 times faster than our current version. The project -- known as "the grid" -- is built atop completely fiber optic networks, and utilizes modern routing centers. By keeping traffic out of our current phone and data systems, the researchers have been able to achieve speeds heretofore unseen on previous networks. The system connects from CERN to 11 centers around the globe, and will be switched on when the Large Hadron Collider is activated, on what the group is calling "Red Button Day." Project heads believe a network with this speed will lead to all sorts of futuristic innovations -- like true cloud computing, holographic video conferencing, and really, really fast pirating of the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series.

^^

yeah saw that its a bit old news but it was not posted here.....

btw any disruptive technology will usher in unpredictable change in the job scenario... we cant predict... have to see.. but this tech will not be even in a few decades to come :D

This will take at-least 20 years to be implemented in the US, Europe etc. because it actually requires a complete overhaul of the existing architecture. The internet as we know it is just a modified Phone-line network. The Grid involves the use of High-density fiber-optic cables, which obviously we don't have laid down right now.

When will it come to India? Let's get a 2MBps unlimited plan for <Rs. 1000 a month and then talk.

few decades to come??

i dont think it will take that long .... sud be there by 2015
frm wat i understand ... the researchers say the technology wud come to corporates in a few years time ..

am i wrong??

glad to know the scientific community is making more (visible) progress.

I don't care about all this. Yahan to 1 GB download karne mein mein 3 Din lagte hain. Probaly next generation(mere nane mune bache) will get the taste of it :D

Read it in DNA Mumbai...
Its going to take another 5 years I think. (and that too in US not in India)

OT: CERN and Large Hadron Collider remind me of ANgels and Demons....!! :D

Anyways, it'll take too long a time to be practically implemented..

This can be the answer...what ms was telling about...remember anyone?when hdDVD died? They told about content straight from from net?

Who knows?

When will it hit india?

Wait arent we talking about 3G for the last two years? Still nothing?
Grid computing,?india? DREAM ON!
