XFX or ASUS both are equally good..

just get the lowest priced model among them unless you know specifically why you want to buy a next in line (or high priced) model

This is the last time i would be asking

I should go for XFX 8600 GT (DDR3) 256 Mb or 512 Mb for an extra 1k and whether it is justified

DigitalDude

go for it if 1k is not a big deal for you... it is justified for the more gfx memory you get

don't even look at 8600GT. It sucks and has ultra low VFM compared to ATi HD3650.
HD3650 costs 5.5K, A 2GB pendrive 0.4-0.5k.
so HDD can come within 4k, for which you can buy a 320GB HDD with case.

Thank you it's over with graphics card but about portable harddisk of WD there are two models 1)WD Elements™ Portable and 2)WD Passport

For which one should i go on the basis of performance and price

HD 3650 supports DirectX 10.1, and playes every game better than 8600GT, and it can also be overclocked better. But all this comes at a price: 500 rupees extra, which I think anyone will be willing to pay.

For harddisc, you are better off buying a 80 GB laptop drive of 5400 RPM and buying a case for it for 200 rupees. The former costs 1.6k max.

though 8600GT may not be able to fully utilise the 512MB, you can't reject it saying that the card cant address that much memory space.. if you are playing in higher resolutions or with some higher settings 256MB can be saturated... in that cases having the 512 MB is useful...

I dunno if the 512MB GDDR3 is easily available.. only if its not available go for the 256MB card

HD3650 costs 5.5k

AFAIK HD3650 (costlier than what you have quoted) better for movies but 8600GT is better for game performance. can you point me to some benchmarks that prove otherwise

for portable HDD,

120GB WD External HDD would be around 3k

have you ever debuged a hardware for s/w performance analysis.....
its kinda part of my job....so i do it..

and then said that 8600GT could only access upto 300 ~ 320 MB of ram..
so no point....in extra 256..and anyways its out of point no need in shelling the money as he is on a budget...increasing ur sys ram may help..but not the GPU ram...in this case..

I dont have much idea about headsets mainly for music...

try Logitech premium stereo headset costs around rs.600 or ask your dealer whether he has any Sennheiser/Philips noise cancelling sets and get one for your budget...

if for gaming, Logitech precision gaming headset would do for your budget rs.1.4k

sorry I dont do any of that stuff as a part of my job (I'm a Mechanical Engg :p ) but I do go through a lot of reviews and benchmarks... saying 8600GT could only access upto 300 ~ 320 MB is not a strong conclusion... you might be talking about the 512MB DDR2 card it is possible since the memory is slower... but if its the 512MB GDDR3 card you are talking about, IMO you have not worked the card enough thats it..

but I agree on this part in saying that he could get more sys ram than spending on this... perfectly logical... :)

dunno about Altec lansing AHP512i

but Altec Lansing AHS515 is 1.3k and Altec Lansing CHP524 is 1.8k
