i v installed Cent OS 5 on my old PC
P3 733MHz with 256 MB RAM
1)
my linux GUI is running very very slow. even a right click on the desktop with no applications running takes ages to pop up.

wat cud b the reason.?? is the system low on resourses???
2)
and i m unable to access the files on my windows box :( they are on FAT32 partition.

it asks me for a username, domain and password. i used the windows username and the workgroup name and windows password.
3)
i use MS Outlook on my windows box. is it possible to sync the outlook pst file and any similar file here so that i can view the same contents on both the systems

plz help.

Try any distro which uses Xfce desktop environment(zenwalk, vector linux, xubuntu, slackware).

RHEL and Centos are inferior products for *Desktop* users.many n00b's still believes that they are running something superior
dude!that RHEL/Novell etc are meant for Enterprise ppl or in other words running servers which needs security!infact RHEL etc contains old packages(but tested).

and, running RHEL etc on ur system...
get Antix mepis-it is the best
http://antix.mepis.org
For a new user,Ubuntu GNU/Linux or Fedora(fedora is RHEL's superman form) are the best(not for ur system though!)
and I found that below link is very nice to ppl who are still wanting window$:

Use a system monitor like top or GNOME System Monitor to determine the resource usage and analyze what are the resources you're falling short of - RAM, CPU or IO.

Is that windows partition on same box or remote box? If remote box have you configured samba properly? There's a nice simple guide on http;//samba.netfirms.com

Convert them to Maildir format? Or try Thunderbird PST Import Plugin (http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Communications/Email/Thunderbird-PST-Import-plugin-33014.shtml)

Don't have CentOS or Windows around to test but I guess whatever tool it is, should be using samba to connect to windows files.

well i too think samba is needed.
But i think in this distro samba is already installed or activated. i m not too sure. how can i chck
if you take a look at the screenshot which posted in the first post u will see that the contents of the windows drive are shown. whn i double click on the drive it asks me for a user name, domain and passowrd.
whn i type in the windows username, workgroup name and password it doesnt do anything

well now facing something weird ...i m able to access the files but i cant share the internet now.
i dunno why :-(
my windows box is connected directly to the internet and i have a second lan card which connects to the linux box.
i have apache on my windows box (oracle 9i installed).
whn i type this PCs IP frm linux box i can see the apache window. but whn i try to access the internet on my linux box it doesnt work.

i have given the ip for the windows box as 192.168.0.1 and
for the linux box as 192.168.0.35 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.0.1
i dunno why it was working yday n not today.
