The New Yahoo Messenger sucks. It does look good. But it is taking a whopping 30 MB of RAM
My computer actually froze because of Y!. :x
Even in my office computer ( P4 2.26 Ghz and 256 RAM) it slows up the system.
Is it slow all over or am I the only one facing this problem. :?:

I have tried trillian and Gaim and don't like it. Man, i tell u, life is gonna be difficult for u as soon as u start using multi IM clients.
1.Whenever u close ur Gaim window, it logs off and not minimises to system tray.
2. Also u need to keep more windows open to keep it going.
3. Also for trill and miranda (never tried it), we need plugins to keep it going.
By the way i have a slow system and i have no problems with Yahoo (even though, it takes up more memory).

hmm... looks like we're again having IMs War here ;-)
Switch to GAIM... it's stable, fast & most of all its OpenSource.
Miranda is also good... + lot of tweaking & full bags of options & plug-ins with it ;-)

Even I am facing the same problem at Home, but at my office ( Athlon XP 2000+ and 1 gig RAM ), it does not make a dent in the memory.
May be it needs atleast 512 MB RAM, pretty bad for an IM.

hmmm why fear when iam here :P
ok to solve that problem do this
tools>>>prefrences>>>plugins>>>
search for the plug in called "system tray icon"
enable it i.e tick at it
voila done
now you can minimize gaim to the system tray rather than loging off
:)
about yahoo it seems it wasnt made for my exquisite system
it crashes at the drop of the hat
so i dropped it
using gaim now
and "iam Loving it " :P

lol :D please edit that to make it 2260 Mhz or 2.26 Ghz and ya yahoo messenger really sucks (only this damn new version) . i face lots of problems sending/receiving files , it keeps popping a message about my firewall man. Also it is buggy i get some Dr. Watson errors many times and it shuts down. Have tried downloading the latest version many times but all of them have this problem. btw MSN 7 rocks.

GAIM is really THE BEST...
You can take a Promise from me and all other users.. It will never cause a problem in its period of usage..
But like all Open Source players, it will need a lot of adjustments to be fine-tuned...
GAIM has also a WebCam viewer.. but only it doesnt have a Voice Module for Voice CHats..
But when u have something as clear as SKYPE.. why go for less???
GAIM Rulez...
No doubt its far better tthan any other in its class
