Theoretically it might be possible but practically makes no sense. IMO, it's difficult to make money online or from home.

If you're not creating value, how can you expect to make decent money working from home?

Earning money from a project or these work-from-home offers is not a long term thing. It's nice to earn a few quick bucks but there is nothing else to it. You work hard to accomplish the task expected of you and get paid for it. No recurring income or future work guarantee. That is the primary thing one should look out for. So, IMO those should only be considered if you want some quick money or have no other options. Just my views :)

I know a few people who get paid for data entry but I can assure you it's no 25-30k per month. Even some fixed and recurring 10-12k income would be better than this for a reasonable person.

they are very much there - like tele calling, medical transcription, data entry, content writing and sometimes some programming etc. You will get work ONLY when and IF it is there, not month after month. And money can reach that amount only under exceptional circumstance. Generally expect 20 to 50% at the most of whats advertised.
It is a very good option for qualified women sitting at home, retired people etc.

Is it possible that they are related to Multi Level Marketing(MLM) schemes ?

some are. many start as middlemen with someone in the US/UK etc and they try to get the jobs outsourced at very cheap rates. For many others this is a proper and regular busines, with no expensive infrastructure set up.

99% are them are pyramid schemes and MLM (please google if you dont know)

the remaining 1% involves lot of rote labour and like sourabh said they are short term work.

and then there are skill and value based jobs like webdesigning, programming, article writing, webmastering etc... those are genuine and good avenues for people who have good skills.

for legitimate info I suggest you become a member of digitalpoint forum (the number one forum for webmasters) or other popular forums and participate in the discussions... in this way you are bound to learn a lot about online opportunities.

dont ever give your money to others without thinking and researching what are you getting in return. so if you do that thinking and research you can easily classify those home/parttime jobs advertised in paper as bogus :D or like a 'dog chasing its own tail' work - you can see something and will work hard in the pursuit of getting it but will wear out eventually.

bottomline: theres nothing called as free lunch ;)
