can not install xp

I have a pc with intel d 101 motherboard and p-IV 2.6 processor.I can not install xp in the machine although windows prof. is working fine.Whenever I boot the xp CD it starts the "set up is inspecting the hardware configuration" then the screen remains black.Plz help.

^remove the harddisks and boot,when setup tries to detect and load modules,connect the hdd's back.although this is dangerous in many ways.but works!
