I just got a Motorola MotoYUVA W230 as a gift and was happily using it for some hours. I found there is a microSD card in the box and installed it on the phone successfully. Now all I wanted was to add some songs in it via PC. I went through the instruction manual and acted according to it. But shockingly for me, when I connected the phone with the PC using the given USB cable, the phone does not working in the PC. :(

It is written that just connecting it on a PC with Windows XP will suffice and then I can sync with it through WMP 11. But the phone does show up but after detecting the Removable Device for just a while (showing icon in the menubar), it gives an error stating that "An error occurred during installation of the Device". Also there are no trace of removable device on My Computer.

I also have a SE W700i and it is working fine in both Mac OS X and PC. But this new one is not working on either Windows or Mac. I also tried to go to www.motorola.com/support/w230 but after installing the drivers too, the phone is still not working.

If someone has the phone in the forum, then please reply here how can I connect it to a PC.

It is a gift from a relative you see. I cant through it away. :( BTW why should I do that ? Do u throw away your exercise book because you are writing with a 10k Parker ? And if yes then would you write on your a** ?? ;)

Can anyone help ? I can access the files when I connect the microSD directly to Laptop. But the data cable is still not working. The cable is not faulty, I checked it out.

Dude, just copy songs via the card-reader.
Why take the pain of getting the phone to work?

Btw, how is the music quality of the phone?

Then I have to take out the card every time I wanted to add something in it. As it is not hot swappable, I have to open the back case and take out battery every time. It is annoying too. :(

Btw, how is the music quality of the phone?

It is good, but not so good as my Sony Ericsson W700i. ;) What more to expect from a sub 3k phone ? ;)

Does he need to install any drivers on XP ? Or just simply plugging in the cable with phone connected does the job ?

Which version of XP is your friend using ? I am using SP3.

There are no problem with the SP3 I think. In my case, the device is just detected for a while in the taskbar and then it disappears! :(

I confirmed that it is also happening with others also throughout the world.

Try using it on another pc or use a different USB cable. Maybe something is wrong with the cable.

Just gave the phone to Motorola service center, they will check it. :)

Got the W230 back from service center! They said it was indeed a driver problem and Motorola is soon going to add a driver for the issue. They assured me that the company will provide free driver CD to every purchaser of the phone. Now I am waiting for the driver CD to come.

Hope it will solve the issues.

hey but why i dont need the Driver ??
i can access the phone as a removable device
and the problem was
when the phone is locked (keypad locked) it detect the phones as a phone and asks drivers for the mobile
but when the phone is not keypad locked it asks weather to connect as removable media if we select yes it does work
check weather this works for u ;)

I tried that a long ago but no avail! :(

I disabled the automatic keypad locking feature of the phone and started connecting using the bundled USB cable but it was still giving the same error! XP and Vista detects the device as a Removable Storage for just a few seconds and then it disappears.

If you have changed the connectivity settings to usb modem then the phone will not be recognized as a usb mass storage device , just change the settings and then reconnect your usb cable , this will solve the problem. Also the mass storage device options gets disabled if you have motorola phone tools running on your pc.

Where to select the connectivity settings within the phone ? I also reset the phone for a few times but that did not help me either. :(

Hi, I had bought this phone a week back. It is working fine when connected to the PC.
Pl try the followings

1. Get a fresh copy of USB Drivers from
http://www.motorola.com/support/W230.

2.With the memory card inserted and after bring the phone to ON & at home screen, insert the USB Cable in your phone and your PC

3. Select "NO" to connect the phone as "Storage Device" when the phone is asking for it.

4. When you connect the phone first time, the window will automatically deduct a new device and will ask you "whether to allow it to select the required drivers?" Now here too select "NO" and opt to browse the select the path where you have stored the downloaded driver files. (Generally the down load will be in zipped format, better unzip it and keep it in root folder before connecting the phone)

5. Now the driver will get installed in your system properly. then remove the device by choosing "Remove safely the connected USB Device" option.

6. Now restart the system and phone separately.

7. Again keep the phone in on and at home screen then connect the usb cable. This time choose the option YES for "Use the phone as Mass storage Device?" question.

8. Now use "MyComputer" option to find out the Removable Device.

9. Now you can drag and drop all the songs that you wanted to transfer to your phone. But, pl, be informed, you need to drop only in the music folder. You can create required sub folders also in it. But the point it all files and sub folders should be in music folder only, because as such the song player will understand the files only from that particular folder. so do not drop or create any other folders outside the music folder.

This has worked fine for me. Hope it will be, for you too.

This phone is definitely a "value for money" product.

All the best,

Regards,
Thamizh

use a memory card reader.

I used my Nokia 5300 as a memory card reader. I transfered the songs to the memory card and the W230 sucessfully played the transferred songs.

I know that using a Memory Card Reader can solve the problem, at least can bypass it. But in fact I want to access it via phone. I just want to know that why the problems are occurring.

A bit curious.... ;)

Hey Utsav, I hate to say that but I am really pissed off at you now. You cant help anyone instead make fun out of peoples' problems. That is not fare. :-(

In this thread too you have posted 3 useless posts just to make fun out of my phone. I did not flamed at you here before but this time is getting harder to resist. Stop this, if u do not have anything to help out then do not reply here. Just do not harass someone repeatedly to get your post count running.

I will have to try this. But does not look too much promising for me.
Motorola said the phone itself does not need any driver to transfer files from/to PC. So I also think it should connect without any driver.

I did not get any error messages anywhere, not on the phone or PC. But there exists the connectivity problem between them. :(

You will have to see the first few posts of the thread to learn about the problem.
