Some Hotmail customers are still unable to log in, Microsoft admits, despite previously claiming that the problem was fixed
Microsoft has admitted that it still has not fixed the problem which has left tens of millions of Hotmail users unable to access their e-mail accounts over the past two days.
Access to all of Microsoft's web-based communication tools - including Hotmail and instant messaging accounts - has been intermittently blocked across the globe since about midday GMT on Tuesday.
The company previously said that it had resolved the problem and that access to Hotmail had been restored, but today Times Online has continued to receive comments from users in Europe and North America saying that their accounts were frozen.
In a statement this afternoon, Microsoft said: "We are aware that some customers may be experiencing difficulty accessing their Windows Live accounts. We’re actively investigating the cause and are working to take the appropriate steps to remedy the situation as rapidly as possible."

Another reason to hate hotmail
@iMav
Please be honest, and please tell why you like Hotmail, like whats better in that compared to Gmail. Would love to hear.
I use hotmail (using live desktop client) only for emails that people send by mistake (thinking my msn chat id is my email !), but even with the desktop client, I find it very difficult, slow, resource hungry.
And the web interface, I think Gmail is the best.

Anyway, I use only Gmail for my mails as configuring a Gmail account is Thunderbird is way too easy.!Just enter e-mail id password and you are done.No need to enter smtp server etc.

not comparing to gmail, i use both gmail & hotmail, but to answer ur question - as to why i like hotmail :)
1. it was my first email account since i can remmeber accessing the internet for the first time
2. its tight integration with other Live services, 1 account to access all MS services
3. integration within windows & now that i am using office live too i can simply drag & drop documents into the ftp folder after setting up my passport account in xp & vista :)
4. unlike yahoo, i dont foresee a take-over bid for MS
though gmail is faster than hotmail because of its simpler, no frills design but for the above reasons i use and will keep on using my homtail account, the increase in space and web 2.0 interface features etc. are just change with times so i am not listing them as reasons as to why i prefer using hotmail

What I like about Windows Live Mail is MAPI. All the mails I have are on the server, however if I use a desktop client like Windows Live Mail desktop or Outlook 2007 then all the mails are in my computer as well as the server. The benefit is that not only I can access the mails offline in my computer, but I can access the same mails when I m away from my computer even from my mobile phone....
Other then this, there WIndows live services, I am just tooo fond of Windows Live Spaces & Skydrive. I agree that Windows Live Messenger sux cos I hardly have friends on it, but for those who use it a lot, it is good.
beat that gmail....If I use GMail, then once I download mails to my computer in Outlook 2007, they are removed from the web account.
I don't get SPAM so that is not a problem.
Yahoo is for chatting :D

Is this something great to boast about? every single well known email service has this feature!

@gx, this is exactly what happens when you are lost in the Microsoft World, you end up thinking that only what they make is technology and they are everything what computers are and everything else is crap!! I would assume, this is just like one of your several blunders, for example, this one (http://thinkdigit.com/forum/showpost.php?p=761669&postcount=26) which you happily avoided!

GX, there is a setting in gmail to keep a copy on the gmail server.
1. it was my first email account since i can remmeber accessing the internet for the first time
Agreed, not easy to change email that we use for long.
2. its tight integration with other Live services, 1 account to access all MS services
Well, does not sound logical as far as email is considered, but as you say, agreed !
3. integration within windows & now that i am using office live too i can simply drag & drop documents into the ftp folder after setting up my passport account in xp & vista :)
Same comment as above

This is very funny reason :D Really ROTFL. Reminds me one of my friends trick, happened long back. He was in need of closure of his bank account (read : his balance Rs.500 or less !) as he shift to another place. The manager refused to close account, he didn't care much too. One day the manager was busy talking to some big business man and my friend went to his cabin and told him he need to close account and need his Rs.500 back. The manager got lil irritated and asked my friend why he need to close down account. My friends answer - "Sir, I am really worried on my cash, I fear because of the Y2K issue, the account section may get messed up and I may lose all my money" The business man who was talking to the manager was like - opened his mouth for 10 mins LOL. And manager took my friend to another room and asked another officer to close down his account and to give his money back immediately :D

Heard of POP ? Email Clients ? Gmail support POP / IMAP etc ?

gmail does it all

Really funny, never knew you are new to POP / IMAP :D

+1 and msn is also for chatting for me. I use my own sites email (web, pop, imap and in mobile) plus I use gmail, and all these works pretty well with email client.

Same comment as above thats because u i assume are not using - spaces; office live; skydrive; technet; msn groups etc. which i use so having 1 email account becomes a very handy thing :)

this reminds me of chetan bhagat's novel - 1 night at a call center :D

u can thank kalpik for this change & the fact that i have an infraction till the 8th so till that is disolved i dont want to woop some1s candy a$$ :p
I didn't read the novel, so not sure what it is, this is my friends true experience. But your reasoning of yahoo takeover bid etc really made me laugh :D and first thing came to mind was my friends experience !!!

1. hotmail is too cluttered
4. hotmail is heavy and hard to use compared to gmail
15. hotmail is not hot subjective :)
2. hotmail does not give high enough storage space
5GB i dont think is considered as less :)
3. hotmail does not have the extra features I require
i think it only lacks pop3 access other than that i would like to know what im missing by using hotmail :)
6. hotmail is too windows oriented
well a lot of people use windows & so in other words u accept the fact that if ur using windows hotmail is better than gmail for u :) ... i agree to u
7. hotmail gives 10 marriage proposals each day
8. hotmail gives 20 loan ads each day
adblock plus :) works like a charm
9. hotmail attracts too much spam famous, besides the spam filter has without doubt improved a hell lot since hotmail has become live
10. hotmail marks proper messages as spam
it has even marked mails from MSN itself as spam :D
11. hotmail is strange as I get tonnes of pirated windows buy offer its ur mailbox only u know what u get, besides if they are pirated windows offers or whatever an email service is meant to deliver ur mail which it does and as u ureself have pointed out hotmail does not filter mails whether they are about pirated software or no, in other terms this is a good point :)

1. hotmail is too cluttered
They put almost 50% less ads than Gmail
2. hotmail does not give high enough storage space
5GB email space+ 5 GB space as skyDrice
Thats much more than sufficient.
3. hotmail does not have the extra features I require
what extra you want to make it HOT
4. hotmail is heavy and hard to use compared to gmail
Hard like ???
5. hotmail is from micro$oft
No logic
6. hotmail is too windows oriented
Again, No logic
7. hotmail gives 10 marriage proposals each day
8. hotmail gives 20 loan ads each day
I get zero :D
9. hotmail attracts too much spam
You must try new Live Ids.
10. hotmail marks proper messages as spam
May be for the first times from a particular ID, and that make it more secure.
11. hotmail is strange as I get tonnes of pirated windows buy offer
Again, I get zero on my 5 year old hotmail ID.
12. hotmail is no longer the property of sameer bhatia
so........
13. hotmail is not intergrated into google's services
It has its own services. Does google provide live services
14. hotmail runs on a windows based server

I am saying all these because I think you are missing some great live features. I will request you to sign up a test live Id, and see how many spams you get.
Just avoid posting your Id in useless forms.
recently (may be 2 months old) I created a @live.in ID..and yet I have not received any spam.

1. hotmail is too cluttered
Agree.
2. hotmail does not give high enough storage space
Never bothered. I like to keep my inbox well organised and clean.
3. hotmail does not have the extra features I require
Like? Care to list a few?
4. hotmail is heavy and hard to use compared to gmail
Spot on! The biggest drawback of hotmail (being heavy).
5. hotmail is from micro$oft
So?
6. hotmail is too windows oriented
Like?
7. hotmail gives 10 marriage proposals each day
8. hotmail gives 20 loan ads each day
9. hotmail attracts too much spam
Nada.. for me, Hotmail's spam filter works very well.
10. hotmail marks proper messages as spam
True, haf faced this most in Hotmail among others.
11. hotmail is strange as I get tonnes of pirated windows buy offer
Huh????!!
12. hotmail is no longer the property of sameer bhatia
And how does that influence in the liking of your hotmail?
13. hotmail is not intergrated into google's services
Are you for real??!!
14. hotmail runs on a windows based server
As long as it doesn't crash or downtimes/security problems this hardly matters.
15. hotmail is not hot
True. IMHO what you need is MallikaMail :D
For me except speed, for everything else Hotmail = GMail for all the features I use. Hotmail is just too heavy. Thats the only complaint against hotmail. Oh yea, one more: No free pop/imap support. That sux! Spam filter is better than Yahoo's equal to GMail but many times wrongly marks proper mails as spam. My first ID way back when hotmail was released to public was with this service.
I'm a strict hater of the web 2.0 interface in mail services. So whenever I'm not on my laptop (away from mail client) what do I do? I disable ajax UI of yahoo, I disable chat service in gmail and use the standard version of Hotmail. I'm still a happy user :)

its too late to give windows mail a third chance now, when I am already comfortable with GMail.
the very fact that it runs on a Windows Server makes it more vulnerable to viruses.
but please do tell me what are the stuff I can expect seeing in hotmail since I ditched it in 2006.
