i did some research n i hav narrowed it down to:

nokia 5310/5610 or SE w890.. however i don kno the cost of 890 yet or whether its been launched here or not.. wat do u guys think? also, which one is better in terms of sound quality?? coz tht is my primary motive.. w890i camera has no AF or flash which nokia has n tht sucks.. but for me, its the sound quality tht matters.. i hav a budget of around 10-12k

suggestions for models apart from these are also welcome :D

i previously owned a w810i so pls don suggest tht..

Get the 5310. It has excellent sound quality. You'll get neither 5610 nor W890i in your budget. W890i hasn't been launched yet but will cost around 16-18k when launched.

Between 5310 and 5610 you can have any; just depends on what you like (about how they look). They are extreeeeemly similar otherwise. 5610 looks better and you should go for it if you are not stretching your budget already. these phones also have better music quality than walkman ones but you need to have a separate headphone also.
W890 will be very far from your budget.
Why not you consider W580? SE phones are much better functionality wise than Nokias. You can run multiple apps on it.

W580 ~ 10.5 K
5610 ~ 12.5 K + (your favorite headphones; needed to have better sound quality than w580)
5310 ~ 10 K + (as above)

So unless you also want to focus on camera quality I'll suggest W580

K790 is a good choice too, but he need a music phone i.e. he need to listen to music and for that he also need a thing called memory card which will bump his budget. AND I, personally, am fed up with phone having a joystick. Joystick is easier and comfortable to use for a few months but afterwards starts acting up and needs to be repaired every 4-5 months or so.

Also W610 is not vfm unless you want those portable stereo speakers which come with it.

IMHO, nokia XM has got huge publicity but the only thing that is good in it is music and nothing else.

and my suggestion for you is to go to a cellphone store

test 5610 and K790i (build, ruggedness, call quality, audio quality, camera quality, speed etc) and then make a decision. DOn't rely completely on what we say.

afaik, the joystick problem was rectified long back and is pretty good even after long use.

You must be referring to the 5610. 5610 sounds really good with EP-630, earphones provided aren't too good

isn't there a way to locate your old mobile by using a unique identification number thats within your mobile hardware ? Whatever the SIM the finder/stealer may put in that mobile, by alerting the service providers you can trace it.

Yes, but most don't bother (given the trouble) because you can only communicate with service provider through police. And even, it is believed that the person using a stolen mobile will never give his correct address to the service provider...:(

Frankly I find that 5310 is a good compett. for Walkman series. But I'm sure SE's "megabass" gimmick shuns mids with hpm70.

K790i can be heavily modded. But the only feature missing is walkman player. Tho its irrelevant coz you can get megabass in the form of an equalizer hack. I think the d-pad of w810i was a plus as k790i has joystick.

Music Playback

This is a SE phone, so you’d be forgiven to take for granted the fact that the phone is gonna be a good music player. And it does not disappoint. We plugged in the SE W810i’s earphones and I have to say, it has to be one of the best sounding phones around. Good enough whilst travelling anyway.

And oh, there is an FM player as well. Thank you very much.

Performance

Nice and fast, is usually why people steer clear of Nokia’s and get Sony Ericsson’s. This one’s no exception. Everything usually loads up when you hit a key and there’s hardly any waiting period, except when you’re playing around with the images that have taken at the max resolution of 3.2MP’s.

Battery Life

Absolutely good(Li-Po 900 mAh ) .Talk time is a good 7hrs and you can play MP3’s continuously for around 11hrs. So looking at a real world scenario(around an hour of talking, 2 hours of music playback, and some shots with the camera), the battery should offer you juice for up to 2 days without the phone needing a dash to the mains.

in terms of bass, SE is the clear leader.

For mids and lows you haf custom acoustics. For bass - enabling the megabass equilizer set will require applying just a patch! (Tho it won't come with that flashy megabass blue logo, but what it delivers is megabass since its only an eq config. internally).

In India only K790 is officially available and thats perfectly acceptable since in India we only have EDGE and no 3G. :-)

go for lg kg 920 its cost around 10500 in univercell and its having 5 MP camera.

unworthy 5mp cam. (Taking a picture with the LG KG920 takes more than 10 seconds in order to focus on the subject, take a shot at the maximum resolution and save it. Focusing and saving each takes around 4 seconds. The auto focus suffers some issues and fails to deliver in low light environments and low contrast subjects. )
flash not at all good (The second test is against a brick wall from about two meters in almost total darkness. For our surprise here the LG KG920 failed miserably. It seems that its flash was not as strong as the one of K800. Moreover KG920 doesn't boost the sensitivity in this situation to compensate for the insufficient light. In this scene even N73 delivers better results than KG920. So, if you want good results with KG920, make sure you shoot from close range.)
