Well I guess it was only a matter of time. Microsoft has already shipped the first testing builds of Windows 7, the successor of Windows Vista, to key partners. The Redmond company will not of course, under any conditions confirm this detail, or breathe a single word about the early testing development milestone of Windows 7, but various third parties were not as shy as Microsoft when it came down to sharing details about the next iteration of Windows. But despite the deafening silence from Microsoft around the next version of the Windows operating system, Windows
7 Milestone 1 Build 6.1.6519.1 indeed shipped outside of Redmond.

Included in this article are the first leaked screenshots of Windows 7, courtesy of ThinkNext. As you can see from the image at the top of this article Microsoft has dropped Windows 7 ULTIMATE into the laps of its selected pool of partner testers. Windows 7 Ultimate is version 6.1 (Build 6519.1.x86fre.winmain.071220-1525).

Windows 7 features support for multiple video cards from different manufacturers running simultaneously and comes with a new Windows Media Center. With Windows 7 M1 already available, Microsoft is now planning to drop M2 in April/May 2008 as well as M3 in the third quarter. At the same time the Beta, Release Candidates and RTM dates are yet to be set. However, Microsoft did indicate to its partners that it is looking to the second half of 2009 for the release to manufacturing of Windows 7.

Windows 7 M1 ISO is 6519.1.071220-1525, and was served in both 32-bit and 64-bits flavors. The installation experience of the operating system is very similar to that of Windows Vista, offering various versions including Home Premium, Business and Ultimate. Windows 7 delivers support for Extended Firmware Interface (EFI). And as you can see from the start menu, the XPS Viewer is right there.

In early releases thats what happens mostly. They first try out the new fatures with same UI. I think this build just includes the new kernel build with some changes done to the Vista UI, and may be some extra "7" features slipped in. I think the UI will change in the future builds.

Even with Longhorn, they started with XP's Luna theme. The subsequent development builds saw various UI themes like Slate, Plex etc, but they finally gave way to Aero. I would suggest we overlook the UIs atleast till Pre-Beta 1 stage.

The M1 is just built over Vista. As of now, they have just used and continued the Vista base. It will change over time.

Ofcourse it looks like Vista. What did you think? they would come up with something revolutionary in a matter of months. Now they are just concentrating on the core. The interface will evolve in a few years. Remember, the first vista in the alpha stages didn't look much different from XP.

Looks like Microsoft is NOT planning to release Windows 7 in 2009. Microsoft's official response, by an email dated 26th January, 2008, to WinVistaClub's enquiry, states that Windows 7 is still in the planning stage and will take approximately 3 years to develop.

While the answers to the other 2 questions may have been on predictable lines, what is important to note that Microsoft TODAY maintains that Windows 7 is STILL in the planning stages and it will take approximately 3 (more) years to develop.

More at WinVistaClub (http://www.winvistaclub.com/i7.html).

For the love of GOD, @soumya, please posting the same fake news repeatedly all over the forum several times! I guess it was made clear in the last thread you created (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79027) that this is just fake! Not trying to offend anyone, but please stop posting fake news repeatedly when you have already been told about the same!

what makes you think that it's fake? just because the ui is similar to vista? :D

Dude, it's fake by all the realities around you. Do a bit of searching on the net before coming to a conclusion that it's not fake. And I guess I made it pretty clear in your last thread why it's fake! I wonder why no one posted in that thread after that! Is that why you opened another thread about the same thing?

If you have something called brains, then from the first screenshot itself you can realise that it's fake, Windows7 logo with Windows Ver6.1 written right next to it? Are you blind or are you just plain stupid? Judgement is upto you! If you want I can upload some fake pics of Windows10! lol.... http://gigasmilies.googlepages.com/21.gif

I am quoting this from http://www.thinknext.net/

''Well, one of the most interesting things in the whole story is that I find so much funny idiots who bring so much fun to me by their comments and the way in which they understand and judge things. For example, many guys said that “UI doesn’t change much, it’s fake!”, well, they think Operating Systems are game consoles, graphic things are the most important. Some others: ”the version number is 6.x, it’s not 7!”, “the Logo is same as Vista, it’s not 7!”, “the Media Center version is 6.x and shows Vista, it’s not 7!” Oh great, buffoons always speak out loudly and proudly what they ‘find out’ without knowing the context of what they see. Not being a computer professional is not, absolutely not, wrong or improper. But being a non-computer professional, you pretend to be a pro and make stupid judgment on some pro things is absolutely sad. Come on, learn something about Windows history, the development or some other common sense. You have been insulting yourself and giving me chances to see buffoonery you show. Wow really funny.'' :D
