let me slove your problem without posting FPS , without 8600 GT you can't play crysis without slowdowns even on minimum settings , so in the list 8600 GT card is the only one capable to run games like crysis, COD 4 with decent FPS on decent settings.

So a 8600GT wil definitely let me play all those games ( including crysis) with decent frame rates ?????? i intend to play at 1024x768. AA/AF need not be turned on....can manage with those 2 switched off....

Buy a good processor(like C2D) first before buying 8600GT.

EDIT-- yea some ppl claim to achieve that with air cooling only.

BTW Pathik--great avatar :D and website too..!

Actually, your CPU is hardly bottlenecking your system as much as your GPu.

I think getting a powerful GPU shud solve most of the problemsIt should but if you are looking to game at 104x768 then it gets CPU bound in which case your processor would eventually choke it.So it's better to invest in a good CPU right now if you need to game decently with a good Graphic card.

i'd say, get c2d e4500 now, & wait for 9600gt to launch.

Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz is enough to support XFX 8600 GT 256 MB.... No need for a Processor upgrade...

the platform you have by judging from your siggy,

Pentium D 820
D101GGC
2 GB DDR-I (Dual Channel)

is quite fine to run the 8600 GT :)

1GB DDR-1
on p4 3ghz
and 8600GT runs jus FinE

You can get a good athlon config in this ..

Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6GHz 2MB L2 cache
ASUS P5N SLI NVIDIA nForce® 570 SLI™1333 FSB
xfx nvidia geforce 8600GT ddr3 256 mb

it will be in or around 16k mark ...
intel may get a little high for ur end...

ABit I-N73HD GeForce 7100/nForce 630i 1333 FSB = Rs.4100/- (overclockable, i guess)

RAM (if you dont have/upgrade) - 2GB-DDR2 - 667 MHZ - PC5300 =Rs.2100

nvidia

^^With 8600GT? Well you cant play ALL games at HIGHEST settings... If you want to play all the latest games at the highest possible settings then you can buy an 8800GT which costs 12-15k.

have you thought of buying ATI HD 3550 ? It costs ~1.5K more than an 8600GT(so its around 6k) but it is DirectX 10.1 compatible and much better than an 8600GT.

HD 3550 is DX10.1 card! Commendable performer, i say! On the other hand, 8600GT is an amazing overclocker and considering its VFM, it is best option available to budget gamerz! And yeah, HD3850 will easily crush both 8600GT and 8600GTS! And btw, 8600GTS is more of a dudd s%^t piece than a GPU! :p I get 18-23FPS at average with all settings very high and Natural Mod! GPU Clocks are 725/930 24x7 !! One more thing, go for a motherboard brands like Asus and MSI! They provide extensive support via forums, regular updates and loads of features! And yes, avoid P5N-E SLI! I have this mobo and it suffers badly with heating and RAM issues!! :(
MSI P35 Diamond/ Combo/ Platinum should be the optimal choice! :)
