I think you are really a noob about linux. Well here are the answers:

I do not know about the availability in Mumbai but you can download every distro from the websites for free.
Every linux distros are absolutely free with some exceptions like the SUSE. But U can get every free version for personal use.
Yeah, surely you can modify them if you are a code cruncher :D

Hi Prathamesh !

90% of Linux Distributions are free to download and install. I dont know about Mumbai vendors but you can search local Linux User Group of Mumbai from here (http://counter.li.org./) ( Server is down right now. Try after a while ).
3.Can I modify them all i.e. Gnu/Linux and all others like ubuntu?
Why do you want to modify any distro at this stage? I would suggest you to download install any Linux distro and have a little bit experience first. Check distrowatch.com

Have fun with Linux !!

Bro, contact any LUG (Linux User Group) from Mumbai.
Or contact mehulved (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/member.php?u=1553) from Mumbai. He will surely help you.

Try a Linux User Group near you. Check this list http://wikiwikiweb.de/LugsList

Do they give it for absolutely free?
YES

2.Which linux flevours are 'absolutely free' and user friendly(linke windows)?

OpenSuSE 10.3, you can also see this post (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76971) for a quick setup

3.Can I modify them all i.e. Gnu/Linux and all others like ubuntu?

Depends on what you mean by "like Ubuntu" and "modification"

I have a few copies of Ubuntu original CD's lying around with me. You can collect it from me at
FOSS Lab,
Mechanical Engg. Dept.,
VJTI College,
Matunga,
Mumbai.

Yeah it's completely free of cost, except your travelling and other expenses you occur. Also, there's ILUG-BOM (""http://db.glug-bom.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page/)

I just work at VJTI, I don't study here.
