I'd select both 'a' and 'd'.
But reading online strains the eyes a lot IMO.
We cud make it an e-Mag when those e-Papers come out.
So for now its 'a'.

I'd select b, because already I'm spending a lot of hours before the computer screen . I'd jus need books for the change of monotony

Option A. Paper has its own pros.. You can carry it anywhere and read, it can help you break the monotony of the monitor, and of course, it has a good feel attached to it..! :D

Electronic publications- yes it is an option but yet to take off in a full scale. I would rather stick with ol' paper and black letters as long as I do not find something as easy to access as print. It does not matter how god the E publication is, the problem still remains is the ease of use.
Consider this, you want to read your favorite book, but you need to confine yourself to the chair in front of your computer screen. I would like to curl in bed or any other place of my choice with my favorite book (or print media) read it in the comfort and ease. Think about it, can any thing take place of the morning paper with a hot cup of tea and two biscuits? At least, nothing yet...
Last but not the least, it is easier and less strain for bespectacled persons to read print media than e publications (in its present form).

So I would stay with print media as long as e publication can not provide me with the comfort and choice of my favorite place. Hence option (a) all the way... :)

Computers are already consuming a huge amount of electricity .if we use newspapers instead of epapers then we are saving some amount of resources in a power starving country .so i vote for A

I save a lot of web pages when i'm online. But as I'm having eye ailments, it's not good for me to spend a lot of time in front of the monitor. So it's (b) for me.

I selected (b).Small articles are OK but nothing can beat the portability and ease of usage of paper.I find it hard to believe people make do with just the e version of some books(ebooks),I found its impossible for me to learn from ebooks, paper books are better.

05-01-2008, 03:58 PM
I will go for option B. Ya we must be nature conservative but while going for having news articles i prever only main articles online for a glimpse of it. And for all other i prefer to go for Print Media.

Electronic reading puts stress on eyes..and U cannot read a ebooks for log time.

My choice is (b).

I just hate to try to recall where was I in the long document before the powercut made me shut my computer down (there arn't any bookmark features in Adobe Acrobat Reader). Neither do I like to sit for hours while squinting to read a word or two.

nothing can beat paper, even though we can get everything electronically, it is not easy to spend reading for hours on screen without straining eyes.

I will go for option B. Because there is ease to read in paper media rather than electronic media. Yes small articals may be read in e-media. But it is painfull to read the whole mag like Digit and its fast track in electronic medea. Dont convert the mag into e-mag.

I do prefer reading a book. But like to have ebooks for them as well. Its the best way to save the books as well as space.

My Choice is A. Simply love reading on paper and hate reading online. Book, Magazines are a good time pass during traveling

antoniobc
11-01-2008, 12:48 PM
I've chosen choice 'b' cause, I'm introduced to topics or articles at the computer, so I don't mind reading small articles on the monitor. But it strains the eyes more. Hence nothing beats paper. Plus you can carry it around wherever you go, you can mark stuff casually whenever you feel like it.

Bottom line is that its just a more comfortable read.

b) cant leave the comfort of reading from paper can read it in any place. but i read reviews and news on the net

summit.nayak
13-01-2008, 08:15 PM
i agree that the comfort which we get when reading from a piece of paper is unbeatable but one can still argue on the point that this comfort for us, human being, has become a discomfort for nature.
hence i would choose the electronic way

I ld anytime prefer the printed paper.
I can carry it anywhere I go.
Reading short reviews, short articles is ok on the web.
But to read entire articles on the web is a pain.
I like the printed one anytime.

Also I would not like to pay for the online magazine.
If ur giving it on the web then give it for free.

I spend a long time online hence I also read online articles and won't mind spending time on that. But still whenever I am free, it's Paper print that I am interested in reading and not the e-books or e-mags. You can't beat the paper experience and comfort of reading.

goobimama
15-01-2008, 03:20 PM
I'm not sure about reading entire books and novels, but reading magazines on a computer is definitely not tiring. In fact, eMags have some nice useful features like web links and search features which you can't get with a paper magazine. Also they are much easier to archive.

While reading the actual paper is pleasant, reading on a computer screen is not half that bad. And I would sacrifice the former for saving out environmental resources. And on the plus side, they will deliver right on time! :)

I have voted for A.
You can not access e-versions every time, every where. And to use it, you have any e-media, such as computer, Internet etc.You need power also. But paper publication is handy. You can use it anywhere, such as train, toilet etc.

Paper is forever there to stay, atleast in the current world. You can perhaps supplement paper and occasionaly complement it with ebooks, but its still never truely replacable. I definitely am not against ebooks, but turning regular books to ebooks by getting rid of real books is riddiculous. As you may have seen, I have recently asked for digit to also be released as a monthly ebook. But that does not mean I want the real paper version stopped. Paper can just never be beaten by current technologies.

So I choose the first option. Paper is irreplacable.
And this was my 1000th post, btw.

Paper FTW!

04-02-2008, 09:14 PM
1. Reading from book is fun!
2. No need to sit in front of monitors & cause problems to the eyes.
3. You can mark on the book(I know its possible in some ebook apps but still).
4. You can read whenever, wherever you want using books.

So ebooks are a big NO!

Still I can sometimes go for electronic publications for saving a bit of my parent's hard earned money

Ebook is a gud source of knowledge...but when everyone is grown up reading paper books; it's difficult but not impossible 2 neglect book reading..As tech is flowing now-a-days we can imagine a world of Ebooks on mobile n other portable devices.........:p

21-02-2008, 05:13 PM
I chose option 2. Only small articles (or free e-books ;) ) online, rest all on paper. Sometimes I even print and read.

Eyes are blue, just lovely TWO.
Trees are many, plant some more honey.

Reading articles on screen is very tiring for the eye, even if it is the best monitor. Eyes are more precious than some trees.

BTW, ever thot about global warming due to more electricity consumed by reading those articles online? ;)

Ankur Gupta
23-02-2008, 07:26 PM
^^That global warming is much lesser compared to global warming caused by cutting trees.
I would go for option 3.
We already have Google for much of the information found in print publications :)

i would like to like to go for option "e"..thats my own option...y?read on

a:You just can’t beat the feel of paper--this option is true to some extent..but u have to refer to electronic media sometimes for full info..

b:I only read small articles online; it’s still print for me--i think this is also true to some extent but u have to dig deep for more information..either u have to know full or dont know anything at all..half knowledge wont do

c:I’d rather read the electronic version than not read at all--but then its like saying id rather drink water than not drink at all..its not an option..its forced on u...

d:Dump paper! Save the trees! Make Digit an e-mag!--this is the worst option as far as digit people and digit readers are concerned....shelling down digit magazine vould be disastrous..its like "optimistic suicide"..this is not social service...v dont want anything free...give us gud service and charge us for it...v dont mind...digit and we would be at a loss...so as we readers

my option is "e"-dats my own option cos people's option keeps changing every millisecond..so as mine...i would not stick to one option..but change it according to my advantage...no option is an option...its vat u choose to do

wat dyu think guys??

E-Books are better for reference than primary medium of reading. They have more convenience i.e. you can search quickly, add as many bookmark as u want etc. But Real Books have real feeling;).

Although, it is better to read an E-Book if you can't have printed copy as anything is better than nothing.

selected option #2

reading a small article like a news article etc. is ok......but reading a whole book or mag is jsut outta the ques until and unless it's neccessary.

Firstly it strains the eyes very much....lookin at the comp screen reading text continously for a couple of hours is very eye straining..... (u knw d excitement of wat's inside this issue makes meh go all freaky 2 read all the stuff in one go...)

Secondly, a physically printed version can be accesed at any time...whereas for an e-ver one wud have 2 specially turn on the sys even for just having a quick glimpse at an article......definitely very irritating.....

I vote for (d), because when publishing magazines on large scale, plenty of trees are cut to make those papers. Whenever I go out, I can only get the smell of fresh Carbon monoxide and Carbon Dioxide. It is better to start electronic publishings, cause they not only help the trees, but also help in promoting the internet to better standard.
