page file set to system managed in c:\
I am logged in administrator.
I have been having this problem randomly for the past 1 month
My system seems to hang and whenever i try to open any file or application I get the following error message. However I could still access and open folder but cannot open any file.
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access the item.At the time of it hanging like that, I am running bitcomet, yahoo messenger.
This has happened randomly a few times.
I can't seem to find any solution so far and i dont know what is wrong with it.
Pls tell me what to do
The problem went away after i cold reboot it...
Normal reboot/shutdown seems to take forever
Then the problem will again randomly appeared
In between i have occasionally got BSOD relating to memory...
the memory voltage in BIOS was set to auto, scan with memtest and reveal no error.
then i changed it to 1.85, still hanged and a scan with memtest reveal a lot of errors.
so i have two problems hang windows xp with access permission problem and the blue screen of death.
i have restored the pagefile to its default location of c:\ so i m yet to get a BSOD after that move.
but the damn access problem still recur randomly

Use System Restore to restore back your computer to the state of 2 months ago. If it didn't work out then you can always revert back to the original state.

the autopatcher is of july 2007..i have now applied the autopatcher august 2007...
i am not waiting to see if the same problems happened again

i m logged in as administrator.
Every file cannot be opened/accessed..it just displayed that error message...
and a restart solved the problem
its like i waked up in the morning and found it like this...i always left the PC on downloading using bitcomet..thats it...
could it be an attempted attack on my PC leading to a lockup like that?

say clearly when the time you lastly connected pen drive, is this problem continuing, or problem occured after 1 or 2 days you lastly connected your pen drive and downloaded some conyents from pen drive to your pc

iam not 100% sure but can clearly say you, the problem is with some virus, worms infected with your system, i recommend to install Avast and perform a bootscan, so that you will find lots of malicious things which we can remove handy,
also try different virus scanners,
if this idea fails then no one can stop you to format your root drive , and install a fresh copy

after a lapse of a few days, i have got the problem again...the access denied error...
guess i might as well remove autopatcher and tried a repair install of the OS
or do a complete reformat of the OS partition...
damn!
