ASUS announced the EN8800GT/HTDP/1G, an Nvidia GeForce 8800-based graphics card with a full 1GB of onboard memory. The DirectX 10 friendly card also includes what ASUS calls SmartDoctor, a method of overclocking not only the core and memory clocks, but the shader clock as well.

The memory is supplied by Qimonda, a globally recognized (but seldom featured) memory manufacturer that specializes in, according to a press release, "computing, infrastructure, graphics, mobile and consumer areas."

We'll request that ASUS send us a EN8800GT/HTDP/1G for review and post it as soon as we get our hands on one. We are curious about overclocking a shader clock, having overclocked many core and memory clocks to middling effect—depending greatly on the graphics card and cooling solution.

We will also see if 1GB of graphics memory really makes a difference over the current standards of 256MB and 512MB. We'll let you know as soon as we can.

I see no point in 1 GB Ram.

No Monitor or Res at desktop really needs that much. Its the Core , Memory, RoP, Steam Processor stuff that really matters than Memory if its above 256 MB for 95% of desktops.

1GB shud ideally require at least 512bit mem interface. It ll not be efficiently used with current 256 bit interface.

It wud be better with 1280MB with 320 bit interface. [320x4] or 384 bit nd 1536MB DDR4.
Or what bout a dual GPU card with so much memory. 2xG92 65nm wud be ideal.

There were many dual GPU cards in past like 6600GT dual, 6800GT dual, 7800GT dual, 7900GT dual etc on single PCB.
with the new 65nm 8800, power consumption nd temp is not as issue, then what?

Gaming Industry and GFX industry pace each other. Thats the old rule.

THere was time when a "3D" Card was considered luxury and Sis 2D cards were pretty common.
