i had a similar problem.
what did you do last?
was there any BSOD?
you said its showing in bios then the HDD.
Plug out the HDD and then run the pc, the next time you restart connect this HDD.
when it happend to me it was IDE's fault, try changing it.
and also connect this hard disk on some other system to check if its working.
or simply disscount the other hard disk and connect the one with the problem.

try changing the IDE, some times it happens like that.
i once changed a HDD and the same problem occured.
On a IDE there is a perticular end which goes to the mobo. the other end is usually for the master and the one in the middle is for slave.
please correct me if i am wrong.
get this combination. it should work.

I had the same problem last week. But i have backed up my data.
Try to remove the data cable and then plug it again. It worked for me.
Try to format the whole HDD using UBCD.I had same problem with seagate 160Gb HDD..

no it nt showing in the disk management anyways..!!
:-(
i dnt think thre is a problem with my hard disk coz it is working fine when connected with a diff ide cable...the problem is, i think, only with my ide cable
i ll try and changng it
the hardware shop is lil too far and dnt think i ll b able to get it in some days
the problm im facing ryt nw is tht, i have connctd both the hard drives with diffrnt ide s, i think thre has to a change in the jumper setting of the hard drives coz nw whn i switch on my computer sometimes it restarts automatically and till the time it is keeps running....all my running applications one by one start showing "illegal operation error.."
pls suggest an appropriate jumper setting fr my setup
thnks in advance

the hdd which has ur windows i.e. samsung would be master and the other one as slave.for the master and slave jumper settings check the individual hdd where u would find the drawing of jumpers on the top of the hdd.

swap the ide cable of ur DVD rom nd HDD. In that case u both HDD shud work.
COnnect the workin pins of the second cable[used with HDD] to the DVD rom.
Get a new cable when u go to shop later.
