Depends on what ur area of work is.
IMO Fedora DVD Comes with too much stuff that we rarely use.
If u have a good net connection, its better to use Ubuntu and install the packages u need.

ray

to get a good answer, answer these questions:

1. what will be the use you will put your PC to?
2. do you have an internet connection? if so, which?(give details about cost, bandwidth and speed)

and to others, I noticed that fedora 8 recomends a min 400mhz prosessor while ubuntu recomends min 50mhz prosessor. it does not make a difference for many, but for 1ghz p3?

Lolz,No.
Xubuntu and Ubuntu use the same base.
The difference is the DE used.
Xfce is faster on lower-ram based systems.
IMO therre wud be no cpu-usage difference in the two on that system.
AFAIK that system is pretty much capable of running ubuntu.
Still if speed is what matters, get something based on slack,
or cook urself a custom gentoo install. ;)

ray

Okee dokee

Ive tested Both of them On My Machine (no im not a jack@#$)

And Ive find these readings

UBUNTU 7.10 :
1. RUNS LIKE WIND,
2. APPLICATIONS ARE EXECUTED THE MOMENT MOUSE CLICK TWICE
3. ORACLE 11G INSTALLATION TIME 1/4 OF SAME ON FEDORA
4. CAN BROWSE WEB PAGES WHILE INSTALLING ORACLE 11G

FEDORA 8 :
1. 100 YEAR OLD LADY CAN CLIMB STAIRS FASTER,
2. HAVE TO WAIT FOR RESPONSE,
3. SCROLLING WEB PAGE TAKES AGES AND SOMETIMES LOST WITHIN (LOL)
4. CAN THINK OF BROWSING WEB PAGES WHILE INSTALLING ORACLE 11G

So I'll Stick to Ubuntu Untill P '007' Comes to Market

and so are icebintu and fluxbuntu.

my question is: why do you have a crappy processor when the other parts are quite decent for an Indian?

P 007 means james bond's Pentium Rig :D

As you've tested ubuntu & it's running well on your rig why bother with other distributions.

But I am now using open suse 10.3. & leaved fedora. It's like a charm.

You are wrong Bro. OpenSUSE 10.2 Runs Perfect on my rig with No Issues

I've Tried OpenSuse 10.1 / UBUNTU/ Fedora 7 /Red HAT / Oracle Enterprice Linux

They all run perfect on my rig

except this Fedora 8

I too found Fedora 8 too bloated and sluggish. It took me more than 2 hours to download 132MB worth update data. And am on a 2mbps connection. I liked the wallpaper texture change in fedora.

Now am back to Ubuntu :)
