I am using fedora core 3...
I have forgotten my root password
how do i retrieve it...... any chances
or do i have to reinstall it
please help me

You can try booting in single user mode which does not require any password. Once you get to the prompt, use the passwd command to reset your password. I am not sure how to do this using fedora core 3.

1. insert the first CD and restart ur system (ur system must boot from cdrom)
2. at the first screen type linux rescue
3. supply the information it ask about ur keyboard, mouse , language, etc
4. after sometime u will get a prompt like this sh-1.05#
5. type command passwd (if not working type passwd root)
6. type ur new passwd
restart ur system
ur problem will be solved
