My friend has a linux based Moto ming and uses airtel gprs, and the java based gmail client just doesnt work. it keeps saying - “Unable to connect”, although browser based access works just fine. He is able to check gmail thru the opera mini browser.

Any solution to access via client...

Make sure that the client is allowed to connnect to the network in settings.

You need to change the gmail java apps permission to allow it to access the net. Even though you say YES to the warning of the java app accessing the net you can't access the net .

There's a "java hacker" app available at motorolafans.com . You can use it for allowing unrestricted access to gmail client.

And BTW the browser is a native Linux app not java based.
