oops... posted it here...
@ charan
i've seen the list and Celeron D 365 is not listed there... but the list was last updated Sept 2006 and this one was released in Jan 2007
but according to this page:
http://www.intel.com/products/processor/celeron_D/index.htm
it is supported by all 915G/GL series...
m so confused!!!

mods.. please move the topic...

yups!
dont want to spend anything if possible... ;)
coz i need to use this pc for around an yr! maybe even less...
wont 3.6 Cel be better than 3.0HT or a similar processor!!

:)

so what do u suggest???
CEL D 3.6Ghz is Rs.1600-1700
P IV 3.0 HT is Rs.3100-3200

i'll get some more rates before finally deciding on the one to purchase...
i would also have preferred PIV over cel but budget doesn't allow me for the time being!

@hsnayvid

either opt for a 6x1 range P4 :) as the new 6x1, for ex 631 / 641 P4 range are based on 64nm :)

I would vote for Intel Pentium 631 (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium4.htm) which is 65nm, 3.0 GHz, 2 MB L2 and 800 MHz FSB :)

There is b a lot of Differnce in terms of just the processor... New P4 6x1 would come with 65nm and 2 MB L2 and 800 FSB where as the Cel D would be just 533 FSB and 512 KB L2 :(

P4 6x1 are much better and power full processors than Celeron D

I still have warranty on that mobo :p so I will be getting a replacement mobo soon, so your mother board is not for me :), Thanks for the offer Prakash :)

i get that ChotoCheeta
but then i have another pc with PIV 3.2HT...
i need this one for using the net and a pit of programming.. if i'll begin to try that..:D

i've been using PIII 450MHz... it would be a significant improvement on that surely... and in around an year the pc would be of no use...

wat about Pentium 2.6D or 2.8D.. They are cheaper,i've heard...

if not celeron then P2.6D/P2.8D or 3.0HT??

Pentium D cheaper ?? Pentium D means Dual Core processors and as far as I know they are costlier than 6x1 processors !!!

Pentium 4 HT (the 5xx/6xx) (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium4.htm)
Pentium D (The 8xx/9xx range) (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium_d.htm)
Pentium EE (840 / 965 /955) (http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentiumxe.htm)
