One True Video Format? - H.264

What this all means is that anyone who wishes to maintain a digital collection of videos, perhaps ripped from DVD, is going to face serious issues on a number of levels. From what I can tell, there are four viable video formats for the future: H.264, Windows Media Video/VC-1, DivX, and Xvid. Each has various strengths and limitations. But each, again, comes with serious compatibility issues today.

My choice: H.264

Over-rated? its almost DEAD :D after XviD came along

H.264 has 2 problems. High CPU requirment for playback & encoding. Although now using dual & quad core CPU we are able to solve this problem to some extent but still not enough, we need a better & efficient & fast encoder for h.264 else Xvid & DivX are going to rule for long time.

I agree, but CoreAVC will play H.264 high Profiles even with a P-IV Machine.
